Third model of the 500 series: Honda CB 500 X in the test
Driving report: Honda CB 500 X
As the third example of the new 500 series, Honda presented the CB 500 X, which is visually based on the larger-displacement models Crossrunner and Crosstourer. The third member of the group is said to be more suitable for tours than her sisters. A first impression.
Tea VS.The B 500 X is the third model in the CB series and marks the end of the platform for the time being. The already available model variants R (sporty oriented) and F (naked bike) are already successful shortly after their market launch. Honda has sold 400 of each of the two models in Germany. The CB 500 X will be available from June, which is priced at 6255 euros at the level of the R variant and not only differs optically from its sister models.

The running culture of the 500cc twin inspires time and again
Rudolf
A pleasant workplace with a good view in the mirror.
All of the features changed for the X are intended to improve comfort and touring suitability. Is it true? On short stretches in the Odenwald and on the autobahn, the CB 500 X could be felt on the tooth. First point: The upright sitting position is very comfortable. You sit relaxed, the view in the mirror is good. And you will soon see whether the small windshield actually brings anything, because it’s on the highway. In fact, the disc is not bad, although it does not protect the entire upper body. Unfortunately, the air flow is directed onto the helmet, which is a bit annoying on the motorway at high speeds in the long run.
The running smoothness of the 500cc twin inspires again and again. Crouching behind the window, the CB 500 X reaches 185 km / h with a little run-up according to the speedometer, which should correspond to the specified "real" 175 km / h. Then the lively two-cylinder rotates about 9000 rpm. Nevertheless, vibrations are kept within limits and are never annoying. The silky smooth running engine is a stunner. The longer suspension travel does not have a negative effect on the motorway, the chassis remains stable even at top speed. On the country road, the 20 millimeters plus is a blessing. Compared to the F and R models, the chassis set-up feels more harmonious and offers significantly more comfort than that of the sister models. The fork and shock absorber not only respond more sensitively, they also filter out bumps better. For some sporty drivers, the setup may have turned out to be too soft, because the soft basic tuning of the suspension elements allows a lot of movement. For the target group for which this 48-hp machine was developed, namely those who are new to the market, the coordination fits.

For Honda’s technicians, improving the touring properties not only meant optimizing the sitting posture and wind protection, the tank was also increased from 15.7 to 17.3 liters compared to the other two models. Based on the consumption of the CB 500 F from the MOTORRAD top test of just 3.2 liters per 100 kilometers, the result is a respectable range of 540 kilometers. With this pronounced suitability for touring, Honda has also thought about luggage transport: Both a topcase and a case system are available for the CB 500 X. So nothing stands in the way of a long vacation.
