In Red Rock County near Sedona, Arizona, USA, of all places, the new Yamaha XVZ 1300 A Royal Star is digging up the hatchet – in God’s and Harley’s own land: MOTORRAD editor Michael Schafer was there and turned red.

R.Red earth, red country – and red skin: the southwest of the USA, where the Red Rock County Canyon, Monument Valley and the Painted Desert are close together, is the hot hell on earth. In a few hours, every uncovered centimeter of skin is scorched red, and the oven heat of the open desert settles like lead on the lungs, which are kept frozen by the air conditioning in every room and every vehicle.

XVZ 1300 A Royal Star digs up the hatchet.

The first contact with the Yamaha XVZ 1300 A Royal Star is surprisingly cool for the hot reception. Now, shortly after five o’clock in the morning, damp morning chill lies over the landscape after an unexpected thunderstorm in the night had showered the area with real flash floods. But soon the morning comes clear, not a cloud blocks the path of the first rays of sun .. Without a murmur, the four-cylinder pulsed under choke its first ignitions in the morning air. No wonder, as the engine is based on the engines of the Venture and Vmax, which have been tried and tested thousands of times not only in the USA.

The engine of the Yamaha XVZ 1300 A Royal Star is slowly warming up, the choke lilnks on the battery of four 28 millimeter Mikuni carburettors can now be fully inserted. The seat is low and the 18-liter tank arches wide between the knees. The blow from the four separate dampers hits the ears deep and clearly – and especially the blow when the heavy boot on the seesaw enters first gear.
