It is the most sassy machine from Ducati which was chosen to welcome a small revolution. A new milestone taken by the factory, certainly less violent than the arrival of the Desmoquattro but interesting in more than one way. 2007 will see the arrival of a new displacement in Bologna; and for the first time, Ducati engines exceed the liter of displacement (except if we count the 1260 Apollo, released in 2 prototype copies in 1963). 86cc more for the biggest finned twin of the brand, 1,078 in total, and here is the 1100 Multistrada.
The 1100 remains faithful to the air / oil cooling and to the 2 valves and 2 spark plugs per cylinder with desmo technology (essential). Drift of the 992 cm3 whose bore has been increased, the block is equipped with an oil bath clutch like the road ST3. The charm will lose a little but the flexibility of the clutch will be even more appreciable. More displacement = more torque and more power. The big Italian trail sport claims 95 nags and a good increase in its traction force, with more than 10 mkg at 4,750 rpm – 1 mkg more offered at a lower speed than the previous one. The gas stream will benefit from the new design of the cylinder heads, inspired by Testatretta technology. The angle between the intake (45 mm) and exhaust (40 mm) valves is reduced, thus improving the efficiency of the combustion chamber. The crankshaft and connecting rods have also been revised. In addition, the maintenance schedule for this new engine is announced with longer service intervals. Thanks for the wallet.
Ducat took the opportunity to equip the Multistrada with new instrumentation, notably with a more reliable fuel gauge. No change on the chassis and brakes side, but the arrival of silent-blocks at the steering level to calm the vibrations from the twin. The S version, equipped with Ohlins suspensions, will also be equipped with this new 1100 DS engine. And you just have to wait to see a Monster 1100, an SS 1100, and why not an ST 3 1100 appear in some time….
