The return of an entry-level Monster!
With the disappearance of the 696 and the 796 at the end of 2014, the legendary Ducati roadster was only offered in 1200cc and 821cc versions and had in the process signed the ban on air-cooled monsters..
Brought back into fashion with the sparkling Scrambler, this Ducati-branded technology is now making its big comeback on the Monster with the arrival of a new 797 equipped with the 803cc Desmodue block. Enough to promise a nice program at a more affordable cost than the big fleet sisters!
Recognizable among a thousand, the Monster 797 respects the codes of the family: trellis frame, large tank, minimalist rear and (roughly) round headlight for the front !
On the mill side, the various anti-pollution standards have had an effect on the performance of the 797 L-shaped twin-cylinder with two valves. Indeed, it will offer ‘only’ 73 horsepower, when the 796 in offered 87 in a not so distant time. The torque, for its part, drops by almost 10 Nm (with a total of 67 Nm) which almost brings it closer to the performance of the 696 which developed 80 horsepower for 69 Nm. However, the engineers worked to release the torque from 5750 rpm while it reached its maximum at 7,750 rpm on the Scramblers. We can assume that he will therefore easily pass the clamping for the A2 license.
But, rest assured, this same Scrambler was able to prove just how much the fin mill knew how to be playful and pleasant. His arrival on this little Monster therefore has a great chance of being a successful marriage with the blessing of the Euro4 standard.!
The frame also marks a return to fundamentals. In the purest Ducati tradition, it is a one-piece tubular steel trellis. On the other hand, exit the single-arm of the 796, the Bologna firm having opted for a triangular oscillating arm reminiscent of that of the 696 of 2008. And in aluminum please! On the suspension side, the 797 inherits a non-adjustable, 43mm Kayaba inverted front fork and a Sachs damper with adjustable rebound and preload for the rear. This chassis offers a reduced wheelbase of 1,435 mm which will guarantee good stability but above all sharp agility. Important arguments for this Monster which will be above all a devourer of virolos. The scale announces in fact 193 kilos full facts which places it 15 kilos below the 821 and will give it better aptitudes to investigate the curves. The 16.5 liter tank (+1.5 liters compared to the 796) will allow for interesting turns while the APTC clutch promises a very soft touch..
Fitted as standard with Pirelli Diablo Rosso II mounted on 17 “10-spoke rims (120/70 front, 180/55 rear), the Monster 797 relies on very very heavy braking since it is two large 320 mm discs and Brembo 4 piston radial calipers which will take care of stopping the miss. ABS is of course required.
Equipment side, the 797 is sober: full LED lighting, LCD dashboard and USB port under the saddle.
By relaunching this heir to the 796, Ducati seeks to seduce those nostalgic for the first Monster, while offering an accessible and sexy roadster to bikers allergic to the neo-retro trend. The low saddle height, its low weight and its high-performance cycle part will allow neophytes to afford Italy without hurting themselves too much. Especially since announced for around € 9,000, it will allow itself to hunt in the lands of stars of the category like the Yamaha MT-07.
