Opening up to new horizons, Bologna thinks about it and practices it, to the chagrin of the purists. “A Ducati for touring? Inconceivable …” For the “real”, the Italians from the parent company of the 916s are sports cars. Period. The manufacturer however succeeded in the exercise by offering the ST2. A sport-GT-oriented machine which has managed to preserve the transalpine character of desmodromic machines. The engineers did not take a 996 to dress it differently and add suitcases to it. No, they designed a whole new motorcycle. The trellis frame is always in the spotlight but its design is specific. The fairing is new, with a less aggressive design than the sports cars but with a beautiful elegance.

The engine uses a usual twin in L, a water-cooled version with 2 valves per cylinder. Without having the ardor of a Testastretta twin, it is nevertheless pleasant and voluntary, even offering flexibility. The machine is welcoming for long runs, although the protection is really fair. Where the ST2 is strong, it is on the comfort, generous as much in seat as in suspensions. The machine is manoeuvrable, even if the focus on the angle remains typical of Ducatis. We then take advantage of imperial handling. Braking requires a little more energy than on a Japanese but is not stingy with power. To complete her skills as a traveler, there is a complete dashboard with a digital window, good range, matching optional cases … A user-friendly Ducati; But where are we going?!? Not quite because the big ones will not be the best off. An ST4 version with a boiling engine of 916 is also available in the catalog.
