When Ducati presented the 1098 Streetfighter at the end of 2008, we quickly imagined that a little brother would follow suit, like the 1198 and 848 sports cars. However, it took 3 years for this to happen, whereas technically , it was not very complicated to modify the twin installed in this chassis. But it finally happened, and the nasty Bologna roadster opens up to a wider audience with this 848 Streetfighter.
Style wise, impossible to distinguish it from the big 1098. Same aggressive and frankly attractive design, single-sided, double exhaust, vicious face, sporty bottom and Italian-style chassis. We are pure juice in an adrenaline-fueled roadster, with charm, aggressiveness, and twin without sweetener. Anxious to teach the Streetfighter in less exclusive ways, the factory has retouched and softened the ergonomics: trigger guard and saddle differs from the big SF.
In the trellis frame, the 849.4 cm3 comes from the youngest of Bolognese sportswomen. Its cylinder head differs somewhat by the adoption of the 11 ° setting already present on the Multistrada and Diavel – enough to soften the twin, at the base not stingy with ardor. In addition, it allows to space the revisions but not really (and so much the better) the power of the team. 140 horses jostle on the 848; the SF 848 keeps the essentials but the temperament of this engine is obviously retouched to stick to a roadster spirit. The figure of 132 canassons announces a good series of sensations, with 9.5 mkg of torque shifted into mid-range and a character of grumbling. Enough to print a hell of a pace, because not only does the chassis smell like arson, but also the machine weighs only 169 kg. It’s the same weight as the big SF; logical thing so much the standardization makes share a host of parts between the two models.
But to contain the prices and preserve the prestige of the 1098 Streetfighter, the 848 skips the monobloc calipers, the discs are smaller but 320 mm all the same, and the suspension elements are no longer signed Showa but Marzocchi. Something that 90% of users will give a damn about, because the equipment remains gear worthy of a pistarde: top rigid steel trellis frame (but more flexible than on the sporty 848, to make it more docile), inverted fork 43mm, Brembo 4-piston radial-mount calipers; the bonus is easier piloting than with the more demanding big brother; especially since the little brawler is equipped with Ducati Traction Control as standard. And to analyze your performance, you can add the DDA to it (to draw from the options catalog).
