Ducati Hyperstrada in the test
Supermoto sweeper with travel qualities
Combining a supermoto sweeper with tourism skills is not a completely new idea. KTM has already demonstrated this with the 990 Supermoto T. But this fell out of the program for this year and thus clears a gap into which the Ducati Hypermotard offshoot Hyperstrada punctuates.

Ducati Hyperstrada in the test
Supermoto sweeper with travel qualities
Everything is the same in the engine room
The ingredients for this: a higher windshield, main stand and the 25 liter soft bags, which make the rear extremely wide and only become weatherproof with additional inner pockets. Spring travel reduced by 20 millimeters at the front and a correspondingly reduced seat height are just as much a part of it as the slightly higher handlebars, two on-board sockets and the newly contoured seat. Everything stayed the same in the engine room. The 821 cm3 V2 provides propulsion, which – already made an excellent debut in the Hyper-motard. As a result, the small Testastretta also impresses here with its superb revving, great acceleration from 3000 rpm and a wide usable speed range that keeps the pressure ready exactly where you need it for crisp country road fun.
The active seating position on the Hyperstrada, which fixes the driver in a seat recess close to the handlebars, also fits this dynamic character. The high windshield provides a little more wind protection without annoying turbulence. However, it also directs the airflow directly onto the helmet, which means that there is constant tension when the visor is open. A seat height of 840 millimeters now makes the command center more easily accessible for pilots without a guard. For those who prefer it even lower, the range of accessories has a bench 20 millimeters lower.
In terms of driving dynamics, the relationship to the Hypermotard is unmistakable. It requires a little pressure on the handlebars, but then pricks greedily into the corners. This is where the sporty genes show. Thanks to its softer spring, the shock absorber allows a little more comfort than that of the Hypermotard. But despite all the sporty attitude: Shortened spring travel and softer tuning set limits. The gear lever scratches the asphalt early on. When turning it quickly or with a passenger, the side and main stands also rasp on the roadway. Hypermotard and its SP variant are more suitable for romping through the Winkelwerk. But the Hyperstrada is more practical. And she can definitely do well-kept sports touring.
