Erik Buell was living a great adventure when his machines vibrated under the passion of many amateurs. Crisis struck, the mark was dropped by Harley, and the 1125 Rs, XB-12s and other Ulysses vanished. Was this the end of the motorcycles of East Troy ?
No, because Erik rebuilt himself and created a new entity, under the scent of competition: E.B.R, for Erik Buell Racing. 2014 allows this phoenix brand to return to the old continent with a sports car, the 1190 RX.
Historically, EBR started with the development of the 1190 RS, a high-end sports car developed on the remnants of the Buell 1125 R. Now it is the 1190 RX’s turn to defend the sportiness and spirit of the Creator. Under an aesthetic that is ultimately quite versatile, the RX highlights technical solutions that cannot be found in any other brand. Innovations that appeared during the great Buell period: an aluminum perimeter frame with large sections also acting as a reservoir, a single brake disc but peripheral to the rim and of an exceptional size of 386 mm, and to bite it, a caliper 8 piston brake. Observe the small ducts improving ventilation on this jaw. Faithful to the twin, this Buell can boast of benefiting from a good reserve of power. Its 1190 cm3 spit out 185 horsepower at 10,600 rpm. Barely 10 less than a Ducati 1199 Panigale. And enough to place it among the most powerful machines of the moment, in front of a Yamaha R1, a Honda CBR 1000 or a KTM RC8-R. The American is also well endowed as a couple, with 14 mkg. Let’s ignore its 190 kg, a good value, because the strengths of Buell productions are the geometry and the technique of the chassis. Surprising, and so special.
The 1190 RX will also be entitled to its share of electronic solutions. No less than 21 positions for traction control, necessary to calm the more than consequent ardor of this machine. However, ABS is not announced. An “oversight” that should quickly be fixed, if only to comply with European standards 2016.
