Euro 3 classic: Aprilia SL 750 Shiver
Attractive alternative
The SL 750 Shiver came onto the market in 2007 and is still in the range today. With its fiery V2 it is not only an attractive alternative for italophiles.
In 2004, the Piaggio Group took the helm at Aprilia. One of the first bikes under the new management in Noale was the AT.prilia SL 750 Shiver, which was launched in 2007 and is still in the range today. With its fiery V2, it is not only an attractive alternative for italophiles. Because: Many motorcyclists consider a two-cylinder engine spread by 90 degrees to be the most exciting drive of all. The Shiver proves why. Your engine runs smoothly after 3000 turns. The two large 92 pistons hammer a beguiling beat. The V2 increases in performance very linearly, spoils with a powerful middle. He snorts richly, but not chubby, from the two somewhat old-fashioned high-routed exhausts in the jagged rear.
Nine years ago, the 750 series was the first ever production motorcycle with ride-by-wire, i.e. electronically operated throttle valves. In three driving modes (sport, touring and rain), the engine is clearly distinguishable on the gas: from fiery to beautifully direct to deliberately dampened. The great engine with good running smoothness and beautiful dohc heads is forgiven for its boastful Italian performance of 95 hp at 9000 rpm: the short-stroke engine reached a maximum of 86 hp in MOTORCYCLE measurements. Free, because the sporty and comfortable posture for the driver and pillion on the well-cut seat makes up for it. The Aprilia SL 750 Shiver, which weighs around 220 kilograms, is perfectly under control via the wide handlebars. With great grip Pirelli Angel ST tires, she circles corners with precise steering behavior. Direction of view equals radius! That creates trust spontaneously.
List price of around 8,700 euros including ABS
Yes, the tubular trolley with cast aluminum profiles for mounting the swingarm works really well. The fork responds cleanly and offers a lot of feedback. And the directly hinged, right-hand shock absorber does a good job and is also easily accessible. Radially screwed on, one-piece brembos brake powerfully and easily. There are also fine components and good workmanship. In general, Italian chic characterizes the whole machine. At a list price of around 8,700 euros including ABS, the 750 is currently the cheapest Aprilia SL 750 Shiver, and in real terms can already be had for 8,000 euros. Sit down and feel good: a real insider tip!
With the Euro 4 standard, the end of the Aprilia SL 750 Shiver, like all V2s from Aprilia, was almost certain. However, Aprilia caused a surprise at EICMA 2016 in Milan and presented the Euro 4-compliant successor Aprilia Shiver 900. The solution to the problem: more displacement.
