Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight and Triumph Bobber put to the test
Single-seater bobber in comparison
"I’m a poor lonely cowboy and a long way from home", Lucky Luke would have sung in the saddle of one of these two bikes. In the absence of a pillion seat, the Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight and Triumph Bobber are permanently lonesome. But you can’t afford to be poor with five-digit purchase prices.
W.If Lucky Luke, the indestructible opponent of the Dalton brothers, were alive today, he would almost certainly drive Bobbers. Hardly anything is as suitable as this type of motorcycle to ride freely in the mind and free from constraints towards the sunset. Or to pursue his favorite pastime, in Luke’s case it is always catching said brothers. With the bounty that he received from the sheriff for this, it would be easy for him to put the approximately 12,500 euros that are required to purchase each of these bikes on the dealer’s counter. The inevitable soloist would not bother him, his faithful horse Jolly Jumper only had room for one. He would have been particularly impressed by the seating furniture of the brand new Triumph, which seems to float freely, because it looks very close to his usual seat pad. In addition, you sit in this lengthways adjustable by 30 mm – albeit very fiddly, laborious and only to be made with tools – initially quite acceptable.

MOTORCYCLE conclusion
For hardcore fans there is no doubt: The Forty-Eight has to go outside. But even beyond all point ratings, a direct comparison quickly shows that the Harley is now getting on in years. That doesn’t affect her character in the least, but Triumph, which is equally expressive and also posh, can in principle do a lot better for the same money. Bobbing too. On top of that, it is currently still a rarity. Some will sell their branded glasses.
