The new 103 ci Switchback could look like a bridge between the Dynas and the big Touring models from the Milwaukee manufacturer. Like the superb (and very expensive) Convertible, the Switchback takes advantage of the lightness of the Dyna models with a pinch of equipment to venture out on the road protecting the man’s chest while carrying Madam’s belongings. Its big chrome headlight topped with a removable windshield gives it all the poise of a Road King, while the slender rear looks like a Baby Street Glide. Its hips are a pair of rigid suitcases which are also removable. The American wears chrome aluminum wheels with black spokes.
As for the engine, the Twin Cam 96 is gradually leaving the range and is being replaced, as installed here, by the big 103, very fat and very torquey. However, it is a little less powerful than the majority of the other models equipped with this unit: it provides 126 Nm of torque on the Switchback while it is 134 Nm on a Road King for example. Transmission is obviously by belt, engaged in a 6-speed gearbox. A real little invitation to travel, this Harley will be perfect for those who want to embark on the great outdoors but hesitate to afford a Touring (Electra, Street or Road King), more majestic but also more impressive in size. Base price of this Switchback: 17 190 euros.
