The Fat Boy is arguably one of the best known and iconic models in the Harley-Davidson lineup. 20 years after his appearance, a twin brother appeared in 2010, the Fat Boy Special. This model is more like a Fat Boy whose skeleton is soaked in a tray of black paint, where only the exhausts have escaped drowning. In fact, it goes a step further for this big softail trying to join the Dark Customs family. In terms of finish and refinement details, we perceive that the Twin Cam shelters the black between its cooling fins but lets the chrome invade the rest of the mechanics. The ‘mini beach’ stainless steel handlebars are narrower but larger in diameter, accommodating the electric cables inside. The full rims machine-gunned on the perimeter are also covered in black, except on the edge. Same treatment for the headlight, the exhausts and the fork, dark as night, then ending with a touch of stainless steel.
The saddle was hollowed out by 10 mm, which allows it to merge with the bike (according to the manufacturer). For this Fat Boy Special, we will talk more about a ‘trendy’ version. Since 2011, ABS is standard. In 2015, Moco reinforces the will and the capacities of the system. The front disc widens from 292 to 300 mm. Since 2016, an even more fat and optimized engine largely justifies this name. All Softails, and therefore the Fat Boy Special, are equipped with the Block 103 High Output version. This Twin Cam offers 1690 cm3 of displacement, a few more horsepower, and a nice slice of torque of over 13 mkg. Its maximum of 13.4 mkg is reached at 3250 rpm.
