This time around, Harley is convinced that the fight is being played out here, now, on the streets, and that it’s time to reopen the chapter of performance. The 1200 Sportster becomes Roadster, mean, sporty. This variation of the XL 1200 no longer accepts any compromise, and craves a cafe-racer.. Far in its past, the echoes of the famous KHR resonate between the tubes of the steel frame. Make room between the sidewalks, the 1200 CX wants them to vibrate.
It is known, and Colin Chapman has always defended it: the enemy is the weight – “Light is right”. Harley has therefore stripped this roadster as much as possible to keep only the essentials (note: I no longer count the number of H-D machines that claim extreme stripping …). With a truncated rear mudguard, specific rims where the words lightness and design have dictated the function, and no artifice coming to disturb the driving, the XL 1200 CX claims the DNA of the machines that competed on the circuit in the years. 50. Fixed in front of the pilot, a minimalist on-board console informs the tempo of the twin with a single hand. The speed is displayed in a digital window. The beautiful padded saddle can make believe in a good dose of comfort but the driving position favoring the pressure on the tank will bring you back to the sporting chapter. The steering geometry of this bike, its choice of tires, its appearance, and especially its suspensions go in this direction. The fork is triple adjustable, while the emulsion side shocks allow 3 levels of preload. Unlike other Sportsters, the 1200 Roadster offers more travel: 112.5mm at the front and 80mm at the rear.
Interesting, but still light years away from a dampening of Japanese or European a bit virulent.
A Sportster can only be conceived with an air engine, dry and full in the mouth. The 1200 Evolution takes care of the cavalry, with almost 10 mkg of torque available at 4000 rpm.
