Damned! A big 600 CBF … It’s a bit reductive but it is certainly the first thought that will come to your mind when you discover the 1000 CBF. And how could it be otherwise? The 1000 uses the same concept, the same plastic, the same look and the same technical solutions.

With this machine, Honda is almost sailing against the competition. Vehicles with a marked and fiery personality are being created everywhere – BMW K 1200 R, Benelli 1130 TnT, Yamaha FZ1, Kawasaki Z 1000, Ducati S4R, MV-Agusta 910 Brutale, etc … – The winged manufacturer has chosen to ” develop a simple machine, versatile and accessible to all, like the CBF 600 “; according to the press kit. Either a good motorcycle with a big engine but which does not look exuberant or impressive.

HONDA CBF 1000 With this in mind, the design of the 1000 CBF is both simple and elegant, with calm contours and large eyes that are a bit mischievous. In the absence of sex appeal, it inspires serenity and quiet strength. Its fork crown half-fairing, stylistically very similar to the 600 version, is equipped with an adjustable screen in 2 positions and 40 mm. The protection is advertised as very high level. There is GT in this roadster, which also offers an adjustable saddle on 3 heights as well as a handlebar that can be positioned over more or less 10 mm.

No innovation on the side of the chassis except that the type of “mono-backbone” frame seems to become the standard of roadsters at Honda. After being installed on the Hornet 600 and 900 then on the CB 500 and 600, this structure now colonizes the CBF 1000. Made up of a main steel beam where the engine is anchored as a stiffening element. , this element plays an important role in the compactness of this machine; its dimensions are thus very close to the CBF 600.
The fashion for oversized peripherals does not reach this fat roadster. No inverted 50mm forks or tires as wide as car wheels. The CBF is equipped with a conventional 41mm diameter fork, a steel swingarm, a pro-link HMAS shock absorber, and very reasonable sized tires: 120 at the front and 160 at the back. It throws less but we find ourselves there in terms of agility and portfolio. Braking is also completely standard, except in the “Deluxe” version of the CBF – It is then equipped with ABS and CBS.

The Z 1000 borrowed the rebored block of the ZX-9R and produced nearly 140 hp; the Yamaha FZ1 recovers the boiler from the R1 and announces 150 hp; the CBF 1000 gets the 4 cylinders of the CBR Fireblade and announces … 100 hp. Honda has chosen to strongly castrate the power (- 40% of watts) to privilege the torque and the sensations at low and mid revs. It’s not stupid to offer only 100 nags, because who can boast of being able to really exploit all the power available on today’s machines … vast debate! To lower the power and make the torque available earlier, many modifications have transformed the 998 cm3.
