In 1986 HOnda officially brought the Helix to Germany. With 250 cubic meters and 17 hp, he founded the large scooter category.

You can only get lucky until the next surf spot: the new bench stands in the way of the long-distance quality of the original Helix.

Sardinia, surfboard, Honda Helix. In moody TV games at a late hour, a talented presenter asks what is wrong. At Maan Motocicli in Audaci in Sardinia the answer is: “It all fits together”. This is exactly the combination that Maan maker Nicola implemented for a friend and customer. The two-meter-man Matteo can now gondola to the beach with his naked helix loaded with his surfboard.

Honda Helix
The Helix is the first large scooter in history. Honda plants the Spacy’s tried and tested 250 cc engine with 17 hp in a tubular frame with a 1.62 meter wheelbase and pushed short swing arm at the front, builds a huge fairing around it and places the driver between the wheels. In 1986 the Helix officially came to Germany. The concept is a blueprint for a completely new type of vehicle. The success of the Helix underscores that.

It’s not nice
Whether the difficult design of the early 1980s of the Helix will eventually become a cult is questionable today. Maan answers that question and removes every square inch of the lush disguise. Underneath is a tubular steel frame with a deep tank, an extremely long line and very straight shapes. The superfluous brackets for the fairing fall victim to the Flex, Nicola builds the new running boards out of sturdy pipes and reshapes the rear section from pipe. He paints the adapted frame in baby blue, mounts an ape hanger with an 18-inch length and decorates some surfaces and parts with fine, hip flower decors. The new running boards live up to their name: They are made of teak. From the same material, Nikola saws, files and grinds the frame cladding, which is also the new home of the ignition lock and starter button.

Technology overhauled and adapted
Nikola overtakes the blissful 250cc stew with its 17 hp with the budget that the disguise sold brings him in. A slash-cut muffler promises more than the standard performance can hold. At the new rear, chrome-plated dampers are supported on new breakpoints and the fork, which has been kept clean, also has a new spring mechanism. The front aluminum rim is covered with polished discs. Nicola uses a nice trick with the brakes. He literally replaces the handlebar with a foot pedal and combines it with the rear drum brake to form an integral braking system.

Many are beautiful, but also impassable.
Better to leave it in its original condition.
Conclusion
Anyone looking for a Helix on relevant used portals will be disappointed. Little is offered. Are they all currently being rebuilt? The surf scooter from Maan definitely makes you want to go and that’s probably the best concept for relaxed poses in the city. Especially in baby blue, a helix is likely to have a sexual effect like a puppy.
