For its return to the clan of big roadsters, Honda returned to the good recipes that make the success of the Yamaha XJR 1300 and Suzuki GSX 1400. Driving is most enjoyable. Suitably seated on the well-designed saddle (but a bit firm), we take advantage of the extreme flexibility of the engine and pleasant controls. Clutch and gearbox are a treat. From then on, we can concentrate on the essentials: driving pleasure … and let ourselves be overwhelmed by the intoxication caused by the 4-legged injection. Discreet at low revs, it leaves a short delay for you to hang on to the handlebars before pushing in a breathtaking manner. A generous spin of the throttle after 3,000 revs and it seriously messes up until the end of the tachometer; regardless of the gear ratio, the boiler has so much in the belly that it plays with all the reports. With so many watts, carrying its 250 kgs is done with astonishing ease. The pace is rising. From stroll to winding, we can even come to a sport register, the machine follows. No need to move your body, everything is done with the right hand. Approaching the curve, braking: power and feeling are present.
The front guides the big CB brilliantly. In tight sequences, his weight resurfaces, but the balance remains stunning. Obviously, to get a rigorous machine, you need a little firm suspensions. Thus, the CB 1300 cannot claim the softness of an XJR. And yet, she is proving to be a good companion at a leisurely pace. The driver chooses to indulge in a bucolic ride with the ever-present possibility of giving himself a good boost – or to treat himself to a good dose of sport on the handlebars of a roadster. From 2005, the CB 1300 could be fitted with ABS as an option. A system pitted to the CBF 600, light and affordable which should allow the big Honda to limit its inflation.
