The CBR 500 R comes to make the junction between the road and the track, between the ride and speed, between gym and sport. In the biker galaxy, this CBR takes on a special role: to be the sports representative of the A2 license.
It’s not easy at first glance to think that this machine is the sister of the CB 500 N roadster and the CB 500 X trail. All three share the same engine and the same chassis. Thanks to the magic of a good pencil stroke, a design very inspired by the CBR 1000 RR and a full fairing, this CB has a sympathetic sport look. Even the Y-spoke rims look like the big hypersport rims. We believe in it or we love it, but it makes you want to. To make the track ?

Coinciding with the 35 kW regulations, the CBR 500 does not need a crazy chassis. It is content with a very classic chassis, with a diamond-type steel frame, a 41 mm fork, an ordinary and functional swingarm, and a rear monoshock type pro-Link. Braking is handled by a 320mm petal disc at the front and a 240mm disc at the rear; ABS comes standard. The tires, 120/70 – 17 and 160/60 – 17, are as wide as those of a 1996 CBR 600 F.
You can be generous on the throttle. It is not the 47.5 horsepower of the twin that will twist the chassis. A reasonable power, at the right limit of that authorized by the A2 license. The cannons of the 471cc will take you anywhere, except at high speeds, with the right amount of oomph in the mid-range. This block has pistons whose shape is close to those of the 1000 RR and the diameter identical to those of the 600 RR. With square dimensions (67 x 66.8 mm), the engine manufacturers did not seek the hysteria of high revs but a more responsive behavior in the middle of the tachometer. A sign of the times, this mill promises to be particularly frugal, Honda valuing it with a consumption of 3.7 liters per 100 km.
Technically ideally placed between the 300 and the 600, the CBR 500 R is also at the price level. It is sufficiently more expensive than its sister not to overshadow it (although …) and half as much as the 600 RR, intended for an already experienced and assertive audience. Oriented towards economy, driving pleasure and fun, this 500 adds to the common platform from which it came the sparkle of a youthful silhouette. She smells of sport, stimulates your eye, murmurs of walks, does not mind tasting the competition and does not forget to welcome your hands for a promising contact.
