Cruiser, tourer and excavator?

The Indian Springfield is intended to conquer the hearts of Indian fans who want both a cruiser reduced to the bare essentials and an excavator suitable for touring.

In Springfield / Massachusetts was I.ndian founded in 1901, the legendary US manufacturer once had its wigwam. The brand, which produces today in Sprit Lake, Iowa, names its latest model after that city. In its full guise, the Springfield is supposed to combine the advantages of the two models Chief Vintage (with leather bags and removable window) and the Chieftain (with plastic cases and handlebar-proof full fairing): window, characteristic XXL chrome headlights, tank console and telescopic fork are reminiscent of the Chief on which the Springfield is essentially based. Side cases, riveted seat bench, light metal 16-inch cast wheels and height-adjustable passenger running boards, on the other hand, come from the Chieftain.

Deep relaxation from the first second

The newest red skin (also available in classic black) looks clean and powerful. Like her blood brothers, she has a big heart: The long-stroke Thunder Stroke 111 combines a huge 1811 cm3, is externally designed like a side-controlled V2. It can be set to ignition current without a key using a transponder – kawumm! The buffalo wakes up with the dullest V2 sound. Immediately ignites the spark, deep relaxation from the first second. With a babbling tone, the Indian Springfield sounds like a quarter V8.

Rest pulse with a warm engine: 750, 800, 750 – the speed lights up as a digital number in the speedometer on the tank console. The pullback handlebar, which is cranked relatively far back, is well at hand. This steel pulse beats wonderfully. 2000 tours, and the day is your friend. The 49-degree V2 bubbles wonderfully through the speed range. 139 Newton meters! You feel how this engine lives. Good vibrations. Everything is and makes you damn relaxed. For such a 372-kilo monster, the Indian Springfield swings smoothly through the few corners of Florida. The fork is steeper than that of the Chief (65 instead of 61 degrees steering head angle), the caster is not quite as long, “only” 133 instead of 155 millimeters.

Indian Springfield: 26,995 euros. Hugh!

Moved by experienced buffalo drivers, the Indian Springfield can be nimbly guided through the tourist crowds of St. Augustine, the oldest city in the USA. The air-assisted central spring strut in the aluminum chassis is comfortable and offers two centimeters more travel than the Chief. We are looking for endless distances, okay, dead straight highways with a speed limit of 112 kilometers per hour. Depending on the size of the driver, the wide, steep windshield that is far in front of the driver can cause slight turbulence. Thanks to the “quick-release mechanism”, it can be dismantled in a matter of seconds, just like the hard case. These can be electronically (centrally) locked at the push of a button. A point of honor: cruise control, on-board computer and ABS, the CAN bus is prepared for optional heated grips. However, they cost extra, and at a list price of 26,995 euros. Hugh!
