Isle of Man legend John McGuinness is slated to compete in the 2018 Tourist Trophy with a Norton V4RR. But he still has to get fit after his fall last year.

In 2017, John McGuinness fell at the North West 200 and was seriously injured. Accordingly, he was unable to take part in the subsequent Tourist Trophy 2017. That should change again this year. Norton has signed the 23-time TT winner. Now McGuinness is supposed to drive the superbike race with the Norton V4RR. Most recently, Norton was able to draw attention to itself with top 10 placements.

In order to participate in the Tourist Trophy 2018, McGuinness first has to get fit. The injury the Brit sustained at the North West 200 last year continues to affect McGuinness. The leg brace that he is currently wearing is due to be removed at the end of January.

After John McGuinness fell last year, he parted ways with Honda after many years. Relations between the British and Honda had cooled after the North West 200 crash. McGuinness had crashed due to a technical malfunction in the electronics.

The Isle of Man TT will take place from May 26th to June 8th this year.

Familiar faces completed the Honda team for the 2017 road racing season – one personable and successful, the other polarizing and handsome. McGuinness has had 23 TT victories so far. With the new Honda CBR 1000 RR Fireblade SP-2, more should actually follow last year. The fall at the North West 200 prevented this attempt and made a start in the Tourist Trophy impossible.

McGuinness’ team-mate was no stranger to the last season either. Guy Martin announced his retirement in active racing in 2015, in 2016 he tried the downhill discipline of non-motorized two-wheelers and then returned to road racing and Honda. His success account includes the Ulster GP, Scarborough Gold Cup, Armoy and Cookstown, as well as 16 podiums in the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy. However, he was unable to add another title to the list of successes at the 2017 TT. After a bumpy comeback, he finally ended his road racing career.
