The Kawasaki
KX 450 attacks the 2021 season with some modifications intended to refine
the machine. No deep upheavals but the same will to demand
which concentrated the racing engineers of Kawa. Something to satisfy
the requirements of intermediate to expert pilots that form the basis
pilots of the big KX.
In what
Concerning the engine, the most notable change is the adoption of a film
dry lubricant on the piston skirt which reduces friction between the piston
itself and the cylinder wall, for the benefit of performance.
Much appreciated
during its introduction, the hydraulic clutch of the KX 450 was improved
this season to reduce lever effort and widen the grip range,
which facilitates the dosage.
In the same
field, Kawasaki engineers revised both the friction material
as well as the size of the disks. The size of the discs goes from Ø 139 mm to Ø 146
mm, while a new friction material helps to increase the
wear resistance. When disengaging, the segments slightly offset (in
rotation) friction plates facilitate the separation of the discs and
reduce friction resistance.
Finally, in
terms of changes, a Renthal Fatbar handlebar is now standard on the
KX 450. With a tube diameter of 28.6 mm, the all-aluminum bar
helps reduce vibrations and shocks transmitted to the pilot, while
a position of the handles lower by 19 mm and closer by 8 mm,
makes it easier to carry weight on the front wheel.
For 2021, this
KX 450 shows itself to be the most successful of all time. No choice in one
segment where competition is the most tense.
