Kawasaki’s 1200 ZRX is one of its roadsters that are not afraid of fashion, or hot streetfighters. Time slips over him without leaving any scratches, even if not so many of them are now defending this classic style; Honda CB 1300, Yamaha XJR 1300 and Suzuki GSX 1400 remain the last to defend this stronghold. But even for this steel frame for the Gentleman Riders, it sometimes makes sense to adapt, evolve … and that’s how the ZRX adopts a lot of changes for 2009.
Far from the bleeding and impulsiveness of a Z 1000, the ZRX can be retouched without in any way denying its original spirit, that of the powerful machines of the 80s. And without deviating from its design, always so classy, imbued with muscle and nostalgia. The touch-ups are light, stroking the line rather than modifying it. Its new fork crown frankly reminds us of that of the old GPZs. The radiator gains new scoops with a massive style. The swing arm, still reinforced from below, adopts a simplified tubular profile. And despite his desire to keep his values of authenticity as intact as possible, he cannot help but afford some modern goodies, such as his crystal indicators, a rear LED light, brake discs with petals, rims with Y sticks, and above all, the adoption of injection (derived from that of the ZX-10R) for its large 4-cylinder.
This is not the only improvement to the engine. Improved cooling, revised cylinder head, larger valves, camshafts with different profiles, more efficient valve springs. All this for an output of 110 hp, a good ten less than before. Strange, isn’t it, in the current race for power, that a manufacturer calms the ardor of a boiler. But on the ZRX, the maximum torque of 11 mkg is obtained 1000 trs earlier. Characteristic, the 4 legs will certainly be more manageable and even more available in this new version.
It is already possible to place a pre-order for this ZRX 1200 version 2009, which will be available on February 1st. The only small problem is that this model will be reserved for the Japanese market. Nothing is planned for his arrival in Europe.
