Bestiality, power, domination, extreme … These words are not enough to define the new ZZR 1400. Yet there is one that is written on the faces of those who discover it: impressive! The first ZZR 1100 provided the same chic in the early 90s, because it was endowed with exceptional power, speed and line.. The 1200 that appeared not long ago had not really taken up the torch and it was the ZX-12 R which took the place of the large sports car very generously motorized. For 2006, the ZZR becomes 1400 and quite simply promises to be the most powerful Kawasaki ever built. It’s clear, the engineers really went crazy…
Moreover, the line of the 1400 sums up very well the objective of this bike: to be THE monster of the road, the fastest, strongest, most incredible sportswoman. The impression of power is everywhere, from the gaping air intake to the grooved ventilation louvers to the indicators integrated into the rear shell. The look alone is striking, sort of facies of an animal out of the imagination of Jules Verne. Every detail, every drawing stroke seems to be optimized for speed. Streaks similar to those found in aeronautics (Kawasaki also has an important department in this field) are present on the amounts of the fender, in the sides of the fairing gills and even on the rods which hold ultra-low profile mirrors.
43 mm inverted fork, radial brake calipers and petal brake discs, almost a hypersportive front end that will have the heavy task of guiding this overpowered beast. The cube boiler 1352 cm3 and hangs the bar of 200 hp (in dynamics with forced air). Hayabusa, ZX-12 R and CBR 1100 XX will find themselves relegated to the rank of pilot fish next to this bitumen white shark. The 300 km / h will be atomized and all the benchmarks established by the sulphurous GSX-R 1300 seriously upset.
All this fury will be brought under control by a chassis fitted with a state-of-the-art monocoque frame. Mounted very forward and rigidly in the frame, the engine is designed to eliminate vibrations as much as possible, offer monumental torque but also very usable and linear, with a big kick once past 6000 rpm.
Kawa also intends to achieve a tour de force by offering a machine in pursuit of the speed of sound while endowing it with real and everyday ease of use. “A relaxed driving position”, this is how the factory describes the space allotted to the pilot of the ZZR 1400. He will be able to control the machine’s information thanks to 2 analog dials (rev counter and speed) overhung with a digital window with lots of information. Hopefully there is a rough mark in the center of the instrument panel “Watch out for not melting a lead!”. With this crazy machine, it will be mission impossible because it will make us feel terrible.
2008 allows the ZZR 1400 to get a little up to date. No aesthetic changes but engine improvements aimed at complying with Euro 3 standards, reducing mechanical noise and optimizing performance. Kawa announces increased maximum power, a smoothed power curve at mid-range and increased torque at low-speed.
If only they could remove the clamping that castrates the engine in this speed range … Restricted at the bottom so as not to overflow the pilot and restricted at the top by French law, the ZZR 1400 does not have the assets to express itself fully. Fortunately for the circuit (only) there are electronic unlocks to show the true face of the ZZR.
