Present in the Kawasaki range since the end of the 80s, the 500 GPZ has seen little evolution during its career, without falling into oblivion or disinterestedness. Originally appeared without a shoe and with a single brake disc, these options will be an integral part of the machine from 88. In 94, date of the last modifications, the rear drum was replaced by a disc, the wheels changed to 17 inches and the trim was revised. Since then, the GPZ has only changed in its colors. A real little sport-GT, this 500 benefits from a typical Kawasaki twin-cylinder, namely angry, particularly happy in the laps, and enhanced by a beautiful extension..
This is paid for by a character perhaps a little too sharp, especially as the engine lacks flexibility at low revs. This is not really penalizing because this 500 is steeped in qualities. First of all, its look, almost timeless, which makes it a pretty and welcoming machine. Indeed, it is: comfortable, it allows you to cut the road while being playful. A budding athlete, it benefits from an agile chassis that invites sport. The bike is easy to take, light, handling serene while maintaining good liveliness, ideal for having fun in the mountains. It is by driving it with enthusiasm that we notice the relative weakness of its braking, in fact a little overwhelmed by the performance of this little sportswoman. Overall, the GPZ is a great little machine, playful, versatile, economical and reliable. 2005 will be the year of its last marketing in Europe; but his career continues on the other side of the Atlantic. Re-baptized Ninja 500 R in the land of Uncle Sam, little Kawa will still delight Americans for a few years.
