Kawasaki 750 ZX-7 RR 1996

Between the road version and the RR that we discover here, only the single-seater saddle will allow you to differentiate them. The ZX-7R already has a strong power of seduction linked to its very competitive aspect. The RR drives the point home because Kawasaki offers you with this Ninja a very tempting deal: 9 plates and you have a competitor ! Almost an invitation ticket to the Superbike Championship. Tempting, no ?

The RR makes strong arguments and differs from the standard in many ways. The hyper-square-sized engine block is powered by Keihin Racing 41mm carbs instead of the standard 38mm. The gearbox changes almost all its reports: the first 2 are lengthened and the last 3 shortcuts. The crown gains a tooth in order to lengthen the final reduction. The crankshaft has been made heavier for more inertia and thus to improve re-acceleration. Let’s add some new reinforced clutch discs to hold up; 135 hp are available in full but the boiler can go much further. Another small check for 37,000 francs and you have the Superbike motor kit to assemble, with 150 nags to run on the track.

With this dose of extra watts, the face of the ZX-7 RR is transfigured. A French version driven sportingly reveals a very homogeneous, precise motorcycle, with a boiler that lacks a little consistency under 8,000 revs then climbs sharply to 13,500 revs.

On the ZX-7 RR “big watts”, no more laughing, we are dealing with impressive potential. The boiler is rounder and more pleasant in the mid-range, goes up quickly in the turns and transforms the track session in “accelerated” mode. The needle takes off clean up to 14,500 revs before being stopped either by the breaker or by a kick in the selector. The gearbox is excellent but you won’t have time to judge because the bike is already arriving at high speed in the killer curve. It’s high time to nab the brakes, which require a certain grip in exchange for power and bite. The chassis cashes perfectly and does not suffer from any unhealthy reaction. Normal, it was designed for.

The frame is reinforced, lightened and makes it possible to intervene on the geometry of the motorcycle in all directions. Compared to the ZX-7R, a host of modifications: adjustable column angle and swingarm anchor points, shorter wheelbase, increased steering column diameter, improved fork, more possibilities to adjust it, different shock absorber and also benefiting from more settings, Tokico calipers replaced by Nissins, lightened battery, and as it does not have the possibility of taking a passenger, the rear frame is also revised.

This Kawasaki ZX-7 RR has enough to fuel a lot of fantasies. If it tempts you with certainty and desire, hurry to order it because the manufacturer has only planned 20 machines for France. Otherwise, watch it shine at Bol or Laguna Seca.
