Change of series. At Kawa, the 1600 range has lived and it is now time for it to give way, to ever bigger, more torquey, more available: here is the new generation of custom in 1700 cc.
No style revolution. The new big sumo is aptly named, Classic. Chrome, big handlebars, big tires, big mill…. We won’t complain because the machine presents with elegance, robustness, and its V-twin seems more enormous than ever. Although the pinnacle is still the VN 2000, the new range does not have to be ashamed of its volume. Moreover, the design of the new 1700 is very close to the big 2 liters presented in 2004, except that here, the distribution is ensured by a simple ACT. As might be expected, the increased displacement allows more power and torque, with the consequent value of 13.7 mkg at 2750 rpm. Kawa also informs us of some innovations, such as the first electronic throttle control, a new 6-speed gearbox with overdrive final ratio, and a belt-driven final transmission..
New engine, therefore, but also new chassis. More compact, lighter, the double cradle has been redesigned with the aim of increasing maneuverability (to put into perspective for a machine weighing over 300 kilos) without sacrificing stability.
It’s not enough to just put a big number on the tank to make it fun. So Kawa overhauled the bodywork and crankcases while focusing on attention to detail and build quality. We can’t wait to see the beast up close, finally to judge.
For those who want to go further, with the lady and luggage, the VN 1700 range also includes the Touring version with the VN 1700 Tourer, and the Grand Touring version with the VN 1700 Voyager.
