Kawasaki Z 125 2020

The Zs are the key to Kawasaki. A family of roadsters steeped in history. A Z 1000 that propelled the brand to the front, a Z 750 with striking success, a 650/900 duo that cannot be ignored on the current market, a Z 1300 powered by one of the rare Japanese 6 cylinders… But there is a displacement where he has never dared to venture: the 125 cm3. Yet it is the dawn of desires, a gateway to motorcycle intoxication. The Greens are now going to intrude … on the offensive in the segment. With this Z 125, Kawasaki in turn wants to offer the first thrills of the roadster.

Kawa is playing big? No, Kawa is playing placed. No need to try to shock, dazzle, or shake. This small roadster therefore displays a slightly provocative but not too much plastic, good proportions, worked edges and a real personality. Not a big Z in miniature, a real small Z to show off as a leader. We are not in the provocative, dear to Kawa; we are in the charm of a youth.

The Z 125 shares its technical base with its sporty sister Ninja – a skirmish that is also striking among small sports cars. A liquid-cooled 4T mono takes care of the 15 regulatory horsepower. More watts, there is no right. No competitor does better in terms of power, but the weight of the Kawa does not allow it to compensate. With 146 kilos, she is far from the lightest.
More conspicuous, the all-green frame is a tubular steel trellis. It will thus be tempting for future owners to slip the anecdote that the sulphurous H2 uses the same type of structure. Braking will be provided by a disc on each wheel, bitten by two-piston calipers, ABS included.

Thin tires, pocket size, assertive look, the Z 125 promises to be rewarding and fun. Comfort will be more important on the roadster, it being straightening the driving position with a higher handlebar than on the sports car. Another difference is that the seat is 30mm higher on the Z than on the Ninja, while both are built on the same platform. This is due to the thicker saddle; and de facto more conciliatory for the buttocks. Also appreciable, the two-tone treatment of the seats is the most beautiful effect.

Z and Ninja finally allow Kawasaki to offer bikes for young people (or not so young) wanting to discover the environment. And his machines are far from naughty. Successful design and impression of quality are assets that the roadster will put forward to find a place in a sector where the Katoche 125 Duke rules, in a small constellation where also orbit the Mash, Yam MT-125, Suz GSX- S 125, Aprilia 125 Tuono, Honda CB 125 R, and also …… Ouhla, they are numerous in the area. And yet, sure that the Kawa will stand out.
