KTM RC8 C: There are only 100 superbikes
KTM RC8C in limited numbers
128 hp, 140 kilos and only 100 pieces
With the 890 engine, KTM is taking a path that many have longed for: a superbike. The new RC8 C comes in a limited edition and appears to be based on the Kramer GP2 R..

128 PS, 101 Nm and 140 kilograms of curb weight flit across the screen every millisecond. KTM holds back in the teaser video with opportunities to simply gain information. Further notes are handcrafted manufacture, the limited number of 100 pieces, forged rims from Dymag and a racing system from Akrapovic. The track-only bike from KTM is ready. Maybe primarily from Kramer, because this name is emblazoned on one of the trim parts in KTM orange. And Kramer already has a race track conversion on offer based on the Duke 890 R. As of today, the new KTM Superbike has a name KTM RC8 C..
KTM RC8 C
The only thing the RC8 C has in common with the Duke 890 R is the engine. Much more than sheer performance, the drivability of such racetrack machines is in the foreground. For this, the engine is in a special tubular frame made of chromoly steel, the material is tougher than normal steel and can therefore be built more easily. In the steering head there is a fully adjustable Apex-Pro fork from WP, which is held by triple clamps with adjustable offset. So the geometry of the front can be changed. In addition, the steering stub can be adjusted in height, width and angle. An Apex-Pro shock absorber from WP works in an aluminum swing arm with beams, which in addition to all settings also offers a length adjustment. So everyone can adjust the RC8 C from KTM individually. Slicks from Pirelli, which are mounted on forged rims from Dymag, provide grip. The RC8 C rolls from the factory to 120/70 ZR17 at the front and 180/60 ZR 17 at the rear, the swing arm is designed up to 200/55 ZR17. The entire rear section is both a seat and a tank. A technology that KTM is already successfully using in the rally version of the 450cc Dakar machine. The complex supply air for the injection and control electronics is located under the tank cover. Brembo’s braking power comes with an adjustable pump and Stylema saddles.

Enough banter: What is the sledge pushing? 128 PS and 101 Nm, optimized for racing. Paired with the enormously low weight of only 140 kilograms dry, 1000 super athletes should only have something to report at the end of the straight. When braking, cornering and firing out, the RC8 C should be up and away. The pilot is supported by a complete racing telemetry system. The is controlled via a 5″ TFT display with integrated data recording that can be freely configured by the driver. The dashboard can display engine statistics and ECU settings and provide live information on lap time. The data is logged and can be analyzed in the AIM RaceStudio at no additional cost, whereby your pit team can track speed, position on the track, lap times and even accelerator pedal position, current speed and gear, acceleration, deceleration and critical engine statistics such as water temperature, battery voltage, ECU Mode and oil pressure.
Kramer GP2 R
Technically very similar seems to be the GP2 R from the German racing manufacturer Kramer. They have on The Duke 890 R is based on a racetrack kit developed that the colleagues from PS drove exclusively. In a direct comparison, the almost identical performance data and weight are noticeable. Incidentally, Kramer wants 29,900 euros for the GP2 R. What KTM is asking for the RC8 C is not known. Pre-orders can be made from July 22nd, 2021. A decision can be made as to whether the optional racing package should be booked. Here, KTM offers 25 customers the chance to merge perfectly with the RC8 C at Jerez. Professionals like Dani Pedrosa and Mika Kalio should help. The package also includes an additional set of Dymag rims, a set of brake discs, tire warmers, motorcycle jacks and a KTM paddock carpet – and we all want that. Here also: price unknown.
Conclusion
In the end, it’s no surprise that KTM is putting the potent base Duke 890 into a racing suit. The RC 8 C is a real trackday and training device that doesn’t fit into any racing class. A very comparable GP2 R from Kramer costs just under 30,000 euros. If KTM hits that price, the RC 8 C is an attractive race bike in terms of its components.
