The beast strikes: There is talk of the enormous torque of the 1290 Duke, reverently recognized as the beast, while at the same time the good controllability is praised. Great, the power that this engine provides at all times.

There they hang out, the established sports cannons who work with and for KTM have celebrated great successes. Klaus Kinigadner, Pit Beirer, Matthias Walkner and colleagues. There, from the Wall of Fame in the restaurant “garage” in Mattighofen, smile down from your autograph cards. They sit in front of it, the nine participants in the KTM Reader Experience, and were warmly welcomed by the KTM crew around Carola Kressl and Christian Brodersen. With the hearty Austrian lunch, not only does hunger go by, but time too. The dark clouds are clearing away, making way for sky blue, fleecy clouds and sunshine.
Key around and go was yesterday
But before you set off on your motorcycles and into the mountains, you need a comprehensive briefing on the many possible settings for the chassis, mapping, traction control and on-board computer. Simply turn the key and drive off, that was yesterday. It is not at all easy to lead a pack of twelve KTMs safely into the Alps, but the two experienced guides Christian and Matthias (no, not the Walkner) have the group under control. The beaming faces at the first coffee stop on the Postalm, part of the largest contiguous alpine area in Austria, speak volumes.
The beast strikes
From the enormous torque the 1290 Duke, reverently recognized as the beast, is the talk, at the same time the good controllability is praised. Great, the power that this engine provides at all times. It’s good that he does it electronically. Without exception, the test persons were positively surprised by the agility and the enormous Handiness of its little brother, the 890 Duke. Great, the engine hanging directly on the gas, which revs up spontaneously and vibration-free. Absolutely awesome how this motorcycle can be wagged through the meander even in tight curves.

The magic of the single cylinder
Only the 690 SMC can do that a little better. The single cylinder drives some participants straight to the heart with its mountain bike handling. Some can well imagine putting such a fun device in the garage as a second or third motorcycle. One pays particular respect to the creamy running of the engine of the individual cylinder “State of the art” was the talk. The mountain that calls the next morning is none other than the highest in Austria: the 3798 meter high Grobglockner.

The mountain calls: curve
The notorious Grossglockner High Alpine Road leads in countless curves over two passes and up to the 2571 meter high Edelweibspitze, whose all-round view of the 3000m of the surrounding mountains is breathtaking. Likewise this asphalt corner paradise, which leads vertiginously from right to left to the Franz-Josef-Hohe. A short visit to the KTM pop-up exhibition there provides insights into the model history of the oranges. Outside, the view of the wonderful curves of the upcoming return trip beckons. Almost 2,000 applicants would have liked to answer the call of the mountain, nine lucky ones were allowed to be there.
Driving pleasure
Together with the MOTORRAD action team, KTM is offering inexpensive test rides for the entire range of models in Alsace over four weekends in August. There are only limited places available. If you want to be there, find out more quickly on the event pages of the motor press.
