KTM sport enduro models 2020
60 percent of all parts are new
One would think that the Austrians, with their success in the off-road sector, in principle no longer need to get better from year to year – the position of orange two-wheelers on the market is too dominant. The 2020 model series of the EXC-F four-stroke and the EXC TPI two-stroke teaches us better.
NOTAfter the milestone in 2018, when injection was introduced in the 250 and 300 cm³ two-stroke engines, the next development stage now follows two years later. Once again, almost no stone was left unturned, so that around 60 percent of all components were replaced for the new generation. As usual, the focus was not only on the four-stroke motorcycles, but also great attention was paid to the injected two-stroke motorcycles.
96.8 kilograms ready to drive
As a highlight, a brand new homologated 150 EXC TPI will be released ex works in 2020, which should have solid torque, especially in the lower speed range. Agility is a matter of course with this lightweight with its declared weight of 96.8 kg.
KTM
KTM is giving its sport enduro bikes a lot of updates in the 2020 model year.
The big siblings with the 250 EXC TPI and the 300 EXC TPI are no less remarkable. Just like the complete four-stroke series, they were given a new main frame, which has the same geometry as its predecessor, but has been reinforced at critical points. In combination with the 40 millimeter longer rear frame and the newly developed aluminum engine mounts, the driver receives more direct feedback. In the two-stroke models, the engine has also been repositioned so that a better balanced driving experience is created.
Engines also receive a refresh
In addition to higher torque, the cooling water flow and thus the cooling efficiency have been improved through thicker riser pipes. The sensitive sensor technology received extensive fine-tuning so that the injected bikes function optimally in all air pressures and temperatures. The mappings were also modified in order to achieve the best possible drivability.
KTM
The updates convinced us during the first test drive.
In order to always leave control to the driver, all the innovations in the engine and chassis required a brand new chassis setting. The decision was made for more damping, but in combination with softer fork springs. This ensures that the bike is comfortable when it comes to responsiveness and puncture-proof when riding fast.
Conclusion
In theory, we have not been promised too much so far, because the first test drives in the Spanish end-European paradise Basella were promising and actually left an impressive performance!
