Forget the citrus juices, this squeezed orange will wake you up every morning with a big slap in the “mouth” thanks to its super-vitamin mill. She is waiting for you more than ever, in the starting blocks, “ready to race”.
The 1290 R is the queen of (super) Naked roadsters. And the Austrians want her to keep her throne, in the face of the envious plagues of the opposing camps. The Empress is determined, she is aggressive and tears you apart. The same as that of a praying mantis, who has just finished reveling in her partner. Its sharp line captivates you, it is a real invitation to debauchery and thrill. As with the insect, a waltz can be fatal. Its exhaustive line suggests to you that it has more than enough to make your wife a widow. And the desire is only greater…
Apart from this “insectoid” optic, built on an aluminum support, its design has not been revolutionized. In any case, he was already sufficiently evocative and avant-garde. On this machine, there is nothing superfluous. Every nut, every scoop, every copper cable, every screw, everything, absolutely everything, has only one idea in mind: to do battle with the competition and ensure you pure pleasure on the handlebars. She is very scantily dressed. She goes valiant, billhook in hand, the same one she used to trim her features, frame tubes and apparent rear loop. Her partial nudity and her Amazon pageantry allow her to stay under the 200 kilogram mark. Precisely 195 kilos dry.
She clearly doesn’t have time for silliness, she has to cross the finish line in first place. For this, its designers have firmed its WP suspensions and kept its Brembo brakes, 320 mm discs at the front lined with M50 clamps – the top. Critically acclaimed predecessor chassis receives no further modifications.
The V2 that powers it sees its compression increase, its intake cones shorten, and it now develops 177 horsepower – 4 units more than the previous vintage. Its combustion chambers have been reworked to offer more torque under 5000 rpm. Its engine is tortured by an original Metzeler M7RR. It will lacerate it thanks to these 130 kw at 9750 rpm. To finish crumbling the gommard, KTM equipped its beast with a Bosch sports ABS with angle sensor. Nothing will be spared this poor tire, since the system has a “supermoto” mode Perfect for indulging in the jubilant pleasures of sliding, which will end up shredding it. RIP.
The ergonomics and the driving position have been reworked. Formerly very welcoming, the posture is changing a bit for more aggressiveness. The handlebars have been widened for more control and better counter steering. Its position is lowered, more forward, as well as further away from the pilot. Crucified to its controls, which are now backlit, you will see a color TFT meter, completely reworked. It contains an on-board computer which is not there for nothing. The new vintage offers a whole panoply of electronic assistance, now essential on models of this range.
There are different driving modes, a speed regulator going up to 200 km / h (we told you, the orange is in a hurry), an anti-wheeling, but also an adjustable traction control on 9 levels! This will assist the rear tire, severely tested under the furious assaults of the LC8 engine block.
The Superduke is the new sporting face of the KTM range. With a smirk, she lands in place of the RC8. It must therefore offer hypersport solutions dedicated to the track. For that, it has an optional “Performance” pack, as well as a “Track” pack. The “Performance” package offers an Up & Down shifter, engine brake management, as well as a connected system directly linked to the KTM My Ride application. It allows you to modify the electronic parameters to your liking, and to that of the circuit practiced. The “Track” pack also has an additional circuit mapping, and a launch control, to get out of the checkered line first.
