KTM 250 SX-F 2015

Menus

For years, the 250 SX-F has been a member of the MX2 world championships and even participated in the 2013 prestigious AMA Supercoss Lite championship in addition to its world championship title. 2013 has been an exceptional season for the 250 SX-F, worldwide and in both the amateur and professional categories; the 2014 season looks no different. For the 2015 model year, this spirited 4-stroke features engine and chassis upgrades; a concentrate of performance that will certainly continue to dominate the MX2 category.

Engine Management System (EMS)

Keihin’s Engine Management System (EMS) with electronic fuel injection, 44mm throttles, as well as the revolutionary injector position developed by KTM, ensure spontaneous reaction and maximum engine performance. The Map-Select-Switch available in the PowerPart catalog also allows different motor characteristics to be selected via the EMS. In addition, an optional User-Setting-Tool allows the use of a laptop computer to access motorcycle data and modify the ignition and fuel injection mapping in just a few clicks..

Cooling

The proven KTM integrated cooling system guides the coolant from the cylinder head through the triangle frame to the WP aluminum radiator. The reduction in the number of hoses facilitates the installation of the radiator and improves the passage of air under the tank.

Motor

The 250 SX? F is your best ally for the podiums in hotly contested motocross competitions; this is among other things proven by the numerous titles of world champions. On the 2015 version, new oil screen seals ensure better resistance even in extreme conditions as well as greater durability. The combination of compact engine design and unbeatable power once again make the 250 SX? F a future contender for victories.

Cylinder head

The heart of the compact DOHC engine is the ultra-modern cylinder head with dual overhead camshafts and DLC-coated rocker arms: a design that achieves speeds of 14,000 rpm. Flow-optimized channels and ultra-light titanium valves (32.5mm intake, 26.5mm exhaust) ensure maximum gas flow and top performance.

Linkage

The crankshaft of the 250 SX? F is fitted with a sliding bearing in the lower connecting rod eye. Two pressed bearings are directly connected to the crank pin of the crankshaft. This construction is a prerequisite for the very high revs and unbeatable top performance of the 250cc engine. This also benefits the durability of the engine and thus allows longer service intervals for the crankshaft: saving time and money for the customer..

Balance shaft

To balance the masses, the engine of the 250 SX-F incorporates a multifunction balancer shaft which simultaneously drives the timing chain and the water pump..

Starter

The 250 SX? F’s engine comes standard with an electric starter. It represents an undisputed advantage in the heat of the race of contested races, even if this results in a slight increase in weight..

Clutch

The very compact CSS (Coil Spring Steel) clutch includes a wear-resistant steel housing and eight highly heat-resistant lined discs thanks to their steel material. The clutch housing of the 2015 model has been redesigned and made lighter. The clutch springs are constructed from a new material which provides a more consistent behavior both under severe conditions of use and over time. Brembo’s hydraulically operated clutch ensures easy modulation and easily controllable.

Gearbox

Very light, the 5-speed gearbox is distinguished by very high precision and easy gear changes that make it easy and precise to choose the right gear ratio in any situation..

Piston

The forged pistons in Box-in-Box construction shine with their super sturdy structure while keeping weight to a minimum. Thanks to the low moving masses, the engine has particularly dynamic characteristics..

Framework

The modern frame design of the SX models made of lightweight, high-strength chrome-molybdenum steel profile tubes combines maximum longitudinal stiffness with optimum torsional rigidity. On the new SX 2015 frame, a forged and milled cross tube connects the two frame halves and the draw rod of the idler mechanism. The absence of welds allows for extremely precise manufacturing tolerances and increased safety while saving 60 grams in weight.

Return mechanism / shock absorber

Redesigned for this 2015 model year, the damping system has a new return mechanism with optimized geometry. A more linear progression with a higher starting rate ensures increased stability while lowering the rear. In addition, this new design saves another 40 grams. Fully adjustable, the WP 5018 shock absorber has been perfectly optimized for this new return mechanism.

Triple trees

High-quality CNC-milled triple trees have been incorporated into the standard KTM equipment for years. They ensure precise handling and clearly underline the flex characteristics and therefore the responsiveness of the telescopic fork. New lower fork crown bearing O-ring bracket, overhauled tube and new steering head screw save another 40 grams.

Fork

The fully adjustable WP Suspension upside-down fork has been perfectly matched to the rear shock absorber as well as the new 22mm front axle (up from 26mm so far) for the 2015 model year. The new axle provides better performance. sensations at the level of the front wheel while also reducing the weight by an additional 40 grams. The new front wheel axle mountings only have a 33mm offset instead of 35mm, providing better stability with a higher caster angle. They also include new fork protectors that are 50 grams lighter..

Fairing

The aim of the KTM designers was to create a more ergonomic and functional fairing, so that the whole bike in every detail is in perfect harmony with the rider. The molded plastic parts of the front mudguard are a model of solidity thanks to their sophisticated structure and attachment.

Graphics

A new, more stylish graphic kit with clear lines underlines the uncompromising requirement of this modern off-road motorcycle.

Saddle

Perfectly ergonomic, the saddle contains a resistant foam core which ensures sufficient comfort and great robustness.

Air box

The airbox design guarantees optimum protection of the air filter against dirt, and maximum airflow for increased performance. Changing the Twin Air air filter in seconds and without tools has long been standard at KTM.

Tank

All models in the SX range have a 7.5 liter lightweight polyethylene tank. The four-stroke motocross models feature the same fuel pump system as the four-stroke enduro models, allowing the optional installation of larger tanks available in the PowerParts catalog or on enduro models.

Handlebar

All SX models are fitted with a super robust Renthal Fatbar 827 tapered handlebar, the shape of which has been adapted to the demands of motocross. The proven KTM system allows the handlebars to be fixed in four different positions. The 2015 model has been fitted with softer two-component grips to preserve the rider’s hands.

Wheels

When it comes to wheels, the 2015 version features black coated Excel rims with CNC machined lightweight hubs and spokes with lightweight aluminum nipples, to ensure maximum stability at minimum weight. The new Dunlop Geomax MX 52 tires were designed in collaboration with the KTM USA factory team and offer optimal traction and top performance. The new crowns save another 50 grams on the unsprung masses.

Brakes

High-tech Brembo brakes have long been standard on KTM off-road motorcycles with lightweight wave disc brakes for optimum braking performance. Best brakes in their category in motocross, they remain unchanged on this 2015 version.
