KTM RC8 prototype 2005

Menus

To have entered the 125 in Grand Prix gave ideas to KTM. The Austrian brand does nothing like everyone else and its first sports car is no exception to the rule. The powerful V-twin already officiating on the Adventure and the big Duke is somewhat retouched to release 130 hp. We find the usual equipment set of modern sports cars – inverted fork, radial calipers – but the KTM innovates on many points.

The “strange” and aggressive fairing would greatly promote aerodynamics. The tank with origamic shapes (the leg of KTM) also acts as a saddle. Everything has been thought out to refocus the masses. Even the exhaust moves and ends up under the engine, like the Buells. This gives a particularly clean and airy rear. The chassis uses a trellis frame to contain the powerful and compact twin-cylinder. The swingarm is truly impressive – it looks like it escaped from a MotoGP machine. The weight of the machine is estimated at around 175 kg, remarkable for a sporty twin of this displacement. The KTM boiler has the property of being the lightest big twin on the market, weighing 56 kg on the scale, or 12 less than that of the Aprilia RSV, its dolphin in terms of lightness. When we know the know-how of KTM engineers, we expect a particularly incisive and efficient machine. But it was not until 2007 to grab the bracelets of this “clockwork orange”.
