Test: BMW G 650 GS: Grammy Addiction Factor
The Great GS is the undisputed bestseller on the German motorcycle market. But already the small BMW G 650 GS with single cattle shows that driving pleasure not only has something to do with maximum performance.
Entry-up BMW for 7000 euros
With the G 650 S BMW but again offers a cheap entry into the white-blue world. At 6900 euros, the Enduro is still not a bargain, but well worth your money. Because in addition to the pretty modern look, the machine enthuses mainly through its handiness on highways and in the city.
The grumpy single cylinder with 48 hp already depends on the idling speed greedy on the gas. From 3000 tours, the engine attracts the air as a diver shortly after reaching the water surface. This is beginning to get used to, over time it makes it addictive. The five-speed box can be switched through quickly, but also neglect also shifting.
Who wants to keep the chain permanently under tension, quickly turns into the red range in 8000 tours, then removes the red flash of the cockpit indicator light and pulls the left foot back up to get the bright color from his visor. The clutch is easy to use with little strength to use and promotes maximum blood circulation of the right hand.
Wieselflink despite just under 200 kilo
At the small GS, fewer the engine performance convinces, but the Wieselflinke handling, despite 192 kilograms of empty weight. The spurt from the stand on Tempo 100 is quick to create thanks to the short translation. The maximum speed of 170 km / h could be higher on the paper. But who wants to heat with a single cylinder with a small windshield on the highway? That does not fit together, it has never been. Although the 14-liter tank hidden under the bench promises an acceptable action radius. In our test consumption of 4.3 liters the advertent will not refuel after 230 kilometers for the early refueling, 70 kilometers would have been there.
Modern effect the asymmetric headlights and the piloting front chassis. The cockpit also corresponds to the zeitgeist and is clearly built up, but does not offer the free of information as the big GS models. After all, the on-board computer holds except time, speed and total mileage still two daily rip counters ready. But BMW would not have waived a fuel gauge and the small disk relieves the upper body of the wind pressure, but also ensures strong turbulence in the helmet area.
Off-road use rather theoretical
The full-fledged and mainly comfortable bench (even in two) invites you to extended ride without pain. So every country road becomes a game road. Practical that the rear suspension strut can be customized by handwheel individually and quickly without tools. In general, the chassis vote as well as the whole motorcycle is more designed on road. The ride on loose underground is possible, but not particularly recommended, already alone because of the mounted tires with a clear road profile.
BMW Typical long is the option list, even with a beginner model. In addition to the meaningful ABS (400 euros), the alarm system (207 euros) and the recommended heating handles (195 euros) there is a practical main stand (120 euros) and a socket (20 euros) for a navigation. Smaller people can order the lowering (180 euros) on a seat height of 75 centimeters. If you need more space than the small lockable storage compartment on the stern, you can grab a comprehensive storage space program. Even larger and tinted wind signs can be ordered. This is equipped, you can also use the G 650 GS for the big tour. But the honest and unfiltered driving pleasure then is lost – you find only unpacked on the country road.

Would like to drive another GS again
But BMW has also trained faithful boxer driver. Since the R80GS, the boxers were raised more and more. Currently 1250 CCM. I would like a 800 boxer in the GS again.
