Transcription of the chat that took place yesterday with Eric Pecoraro: pound / euro parity, World 2 wheels, World Supersport, press, attitude to the crisis … The spokesperson for Triumph France lent himself to the game of direct to answer your questions.
Question from Bulti84: Can we hope for a fall in prices at Triumph following the fall of the British Pound against the Euro? Thank you.
Response from Eric Pecoraro : Good morning all ! I am delighted to be with you to answer your questions! To answer this question of Pound / Euro parity, we cannot pass on an immediate increase or decrease in order to limit price movements upwards or downwards. Companies like Triumph buy large inventories of change in advance, which ensures price stability. It’s true that when the Pound goes down we want to see prices fall, but when it goes up we don’t want to see them increase. !
"Mondial de Paris: if indeed several major brands on the market decided not to come, there would be a real risk that the Show would disappear …" |
Scooter question: In your opinion, can the very severe economic crisis in motorized two-wheelers lead the brands to agree to cancel the next Motorcycle Show? No language of wood please !
Response from Eric Pecoraro : That the brands agree to cancel the Show, no. Triumph does not want to see the Mondial de Paris disappear, on the contrary. We want to see it prosper and grow! We have already confirmed our participation in the Show. On the other hand, other major brands on the motorcycle market have still not done so … They reserve their response under cover of the "crisis". But if indeed several major brands on the market decided not to come, there would be a real risk that the show would disappear … What I cannot and do not want to believe !
Question from dayto675: Hello, when will the 1050 Dayto be? ?
Response from Eric Pecoraro : I see that you are very numerous to ask this question, so my answer applies to all the others. If it were up to me, the answer is simple: TOMORROW !!! Unfortunately, it is not my responsibility and it is not topical in England … We are not ruling out any leads in the development of our products, but the development of this type of machine is part of the time because they evolve very quickly and that would block too many human resources within our R&D center, which already represents nearly 15% of our workforce and which is already busy…
Question from Anti-Spam: Hello, how to explain the disappointing sports results of the Daytona in World Supersport, despite its excellent level compared to the competition? ?
Response from Eric Pecoraro : The results for the first year weren’t that disappointing, as the bikes were consistently in the top 10. The first year is always a year of learning and we are confident for this year which is beginning: proof of the excellent times achieved by the two official Triumph riders in the last tests at Phillip Island! Gary Mc Coy achieved the 2nd time and Gianluca Nannelli the 6th. Roll on Sunday morning, at 3 a.m. I’ll be watching my TV !!!
Question from Slider: Why didn’t Triumph exploit the "Tiger" concept with the 675 engine? ?
Response from Eric Pecoraro : Today no, because we have exploited other tracks for the moment … We have renewed many models in the range in recent years, specifically on the more European ranges. But since Triumph is present all over the world, we have to think of other markets, with range segments in which we are not yet present.
"Before asking our dealers to make investments, we make sure they can make them!" |
Question of ZZR600: Hello Mr. Pecoraro, in your 2008 interview you thank "your network which made enormous investments to support the development of the brand". Are these investments not likely to be too heavy to bear in 2009 for some dealers? Triumph France will be able to act in the event of difficulties ?
Response from Eric Pecoraro : Indeed, we are very proud of our network which actively participates in the development of the brand and without which we would not have the results that we have today! Our dealers are really part of our development strategy and we work in real partnership with them. Before asking them to make investments, we make sure they can make it! All this in order to better receive the customer and to build loyalty to his dealer, and therefore to the brand.
Question from Max: I have just placed my order for the Speed Triple SE, in all the press and your documentations you specified an availability for March 2009 and in the interview on Moto-Net you announced an availability for April, how much will it be? there be a lag? Can we have a reliable date? PS: I have to manage the resale of my old motorcycle … and I don’t want to be without two-wheelers.
Response from Eric Pecoraro : The 15th Anniversary Speed Triple is indeed eagerly awaited, since there really won’t be something for everyone! The first will arrive in concessions at the end of March beginning of April maximum.
Question from voxan: Hello, when will a real large roadster like the BMW 1200 RT or the Honda Pan European) at Triumph ?
Response from Eric Pecoraro : As I indicated earlier, we have exploited other avenues for the moment and this is not on the agenda…
Question from TriumphMan: I would like to ask you the same question as at the 2007 Paris Moto Show, where I had no answer: when will a Sprint ST 1200 or 1300? I hope my question will reach you !
Response from Eric Pecoraro : Yes, your question has reached me! See my answer just above…
Question from REDS: Is it normal that a brand like Triumph offers such a rotten varnish on the 2008 Triumph Speed Triple which leaves after barely two months and refuses to provide after-sales service? ?
Response from Eric Pecoraro : This is a very specific problem, for the moment I have no knowledge of any feedback on this subject, contact your dealer who will send us the request.
"The economic context is tense, but we are not in the wait" |
Question from Jeff: Despite a tense economic context, Triumph manages to lower the price of its 675 K8 and to unveil an even more successful replacement (which I would have liked to have discovered in test on Moto-Net!): How do you manage to achieve this tour de force, when the Japanese giants are only sending alarming signals (sports withdrawals, price increases, etc.)? Thank you and God save the Triple !
Response from Eric Pecoraro : The economic context is tense, but we are not in the wait. On the contrary, we are developing our activities in all directions! The manufacture of Triumphs has always been an efficient economic model. In addition, we manufacture as many parts as possible to avoid subcontracting and control costs, quality and availability. We are not subject to price variance from subcontractors and we strive to offer our models at a price in line with the market.
"On the Sprint ST and the Tiger, ABS is offered and represents 60% of sales of these models" |
Question from streetforever: When will we see a coded key and optional ABS? Efforts to fight theft ?
Response from Eric Pecoraro : Concerning ABS, it is a phenomenon which is developing more and more. For example on the Sprint ST and the Tiger, ABS is offered and represents 60% of sales of these models. We are attentive to the evolution of our customers’ demand for the possibility of having ABS as an option on our models. Regarding the coded key, it is specific to certain markets such as France, so we must remain attentive to all markets but unfortunately we cannot satisfy all countries…
Question from T-Boy: Do you listen to your customers when they give you negative information from your network? Are you going to the field to assess the reality of the problems?
Response from Eric Pecoraro : Concretely, when you become a Triumph customer, two weeks after your purchase, you are sent a satisfaction questionnaire. We are extremely attentive to the results and they have immediate repercussions in the network. The return rate is very high (56%) and I can assure you that this is taken into account, both at the head office and at the dealers. !
Question from nico21000: good evening, in view of your answers, on which tracks will Triumph launch??
Response from Eric Pecoraro : I would so much like to answer this question … But unfortunately I cannot reveal which will be the next models of Triumph. See you at the Salon !
"The price of a basic revision recommended by the manufacturer is not higher at Triumph than at other brands!" |
Question from Triumph84: Why are Triumph maintenance prices during major overhauls (20,000 km) so high compared to other brands?
Response from Eric Pecoraro : The price of a basic overhaul recommended by the manufacturer is not higher at Triumph than at other brands! The 20,000 overhaul is indeed a valve clearance check overhaul, so it is necessarily more expensive than a 10,000 overhaul which does not require major disassembly..
Question from Jacky: Eric, isn’t it envisaged in the short term a network of more professional distributors, I mean exclusive to better represent the Triumph brand and not as we see too often multi-brand dealers? ?
Response from Eric Pecoraro : Today in large cities, the majority of Triumph dealerships are already exclusive dealerships. But even in non-exclusive stores, we are committed to respecting the brand’s identity. There are around 50 dealers in mainland France, of which just over 20 are exclusive. This is a natural trend, given the brand’s constantly increasing volumes.
"Exclusive concessions are a natural trend given the brand’s volumes" |
Question from a biker on the net: What is your view of the motorcycle press and websites? Necessary, objective or complacent with brands because of your advertising campaigns ?
Response from Eric Pecoraro : The press and motorcycle websites are indeed necessary. We need them to publicize our motorcycles and they need our news and news to be able to feed their newspapers and their sites. Yes, they are objective. But what I would expect from the paper press, it would be more detailed articles whereas the Internet press goes faster without going into all the details because instant information is expected from them. And when you’re instant, you can’t get to the bottom of it. Complaisant, no, because there are a lot of speakers and to my knowledge, the loss of an advertiser for a newspaper would not put it in danger.
Question from streetforever: Did Triumph solve the problem with the excessive delivery times of the Street Triple?
Response from Eric Pecoraro : Yes it is resolved, the deadlines are now practically immediate for the Street Triple.
"Today the deadlines are practically immediate for the Street Triple" |
Question from Streeter: Hi Eric, I’m literally drooling on the Street Triple but friends have warned me that the rear shocks are failing. Triumph intends to react ?
Response from Eric Pecoraro : No, there is no failure on the rear shocks of the Street Triple. There was a recall last year concerning about fifty motorcycles, because Kayaba had supplied us with a set of shock absorbers presenting a risk of failure. All affected motorcycles have been modified under the warranty and since then no problem !
Question from Paul Marseille: Hello, in your opinion what will be the consequences on Triumph of the crisis in England, which everyone agrees to find more serious than in France ?
Response from Eric Pecoraro : Honestly, none! England in terms of volume represents 12% of world sales. The first market for Triumph is the USA where we are in the process of conquering, and the second is France. Despite the crisis, Triumph in 2008 was the brand that made the most progress on the world market.
I was happy to answer all of your questions! Sorry for not having had time to answer everyone, but sincerely I hope to be able to repeat the experience soon. And thank you again for the interest and passion you have for the brand !
