BMW will no longer be alone in the high-ranking roadster market. A rival to the R 1150 R, the new Breva 1100 takes up the concept of the 750, namely a fun and friendly motorcycle, usable on a daily basis, with a lot of charm. The mechanical basis comes from the V 11 S, with however some modifications. The twin engine develops 5 hp less, with a more homogeneous power curve in order to promote a smooth ride. Injection, connecting rods, pistons, alternator and oil pump are new; as well as the cylinder heads which gain a double ignition. The finish seems very neat, the chic aspect very marked, and the technology is closer to the Germans than the old-fashioned image (which tends to disappear) of the Guzzi of the old days. The single-sided gimbal is very similar to BMW’s Paralever, a technique that favors a short wheelbase and maximum travel. Comfort appears as the priority on this Guzzi; which will not hesitate to offer you the inimitable sensations of its twin so characteristic and so captivating. This roadster will offer a whole range of options for venturing out on a trip. A beautiful Italian who will capsize more than one.
Starting with the one who will let himself be intoxicated by settling in this Guzzi armchair. Unlike the wave of virile and sporty roadsters such as the Z 1000, Speed Triple and Monster S4R, the Breva invites you to indulge and taste good things. A minister’s saddle welcomes you while your gaze caresses the charm that emanates from the motorcycle. Impossible to miss it, the big twin generously lets appear its cylinders which tease you the eye but more the knees. Shorter, the mill has advanced 40 mm into the frame. He forgot a pinch of his legendary overturning torque. However, it suffices to shake the connecting rods at a red light to taste this singular swing, now a little less disconcerting. Once deliciously imprisoned in this GT roadster, you will have to think about lifting your retina off a little from the very elegant and incredibly complete dashboard. We quibble by noting that an electronic anti-theft device is missing but the whole is beautiful, has a host of functions (a real Windows, without the mouse but which does not crash) and the use of which is controlled by the comodo left. Awesome !
First (without the traditional jaw release of the box), release of the clutch somewhat firm and take off smoothly. The right grip delicately accompanies the hand, giving life and flexibility to the 1100 twin. The single-sided gimbal works in a very convincing way, limiting the reactions specific to this type of transmission as much as possible. From this little tour in town, the “Goudzi” never ceases to seduce. Where it gets tough is when the Brembo wakes up. No doubt by wanting to do too well, the factory has put too much power in the brakes. The licking of the platelets promises to be good but the rest is disenchanting. Excessive braking only needs to block the rear and can also hurt the front when the machine is moving at low speed. Really shame, especially for this type of machine.
If the engine part evolves serenely towards modernism while retaining the claw of the values of yesteryear, the road behavior, it is well and truly in the XXIst century. Easy, precise, reassuring, the Breva announces pleasure in curves and confirms once inside. It only awaits your requests to obey, constantly informing you and relevance of the place where it puts its wheels. The motor takes care of taking you in a deep winding. More than its 86 hp, it is especially the way in which it delivers its torque that gives all its taste to the ride. And yet, we would come to ask more of this mill … Because if the motorcycle warns you when your driving is very generous, it is not that the chassis tells you to calm down. Flattering, but it is outside its field of investigation. The 1100 Breva is tasted more like a good cognac; without moderation and in first-class comfort.
