The Bellagio inaugurated a new style of custom for the Italian manufacturer, less California (in vogue for more than … 30 years), less touring, more bad boy, a bit like Harley’s Sportster line. The 35-year edition of the Caliph seemed like a tribute tinged with a ‘goodbye’. Would this 940 take up the torch of a new generation at Guzzi? ?
Its name sings like the famous Las Vegas hotel. However, we find its origin in the Italian Alps: it is the name of a small town located on the shores of Lake Como. Formerly the Lombard bourgeoisie met there; today, this name is carried by this 940 custom. A beautiful machine, with an overflowing twin coupled with a presence that is both discreet and present. The Bellagio has the mouth, is a provocative hair, and accentuates its aggressiveness by its double exhausts terminated by multi-drilled tips. Equipment side, we are far from the days of California: large fork, electronic dashboard with digital window, brake stamped Brembo and single-sided with cardan shaft. Designed for maximum availability from low revs, the new twin retains all of the Guzzi philosophy. In our world of 16 valves and ever more imposing radiator, the 940 evolves in la dolce vita. What a pleasure to savor an engine that is staunchly authentic, with 2 valves per cylinder, air cooling, and character that is less and less to be found. Not really flexible but strong at the halfway point, the engine has a tangy and confusing taste – we are far from the blandness of certain Japanese productions. Bellagio is buffalo steak with a real Roquefort sauce; meat that can be cut with a big knife, that doesn’t need to run off the plate, and that leaves you with a strong taste in your mouth once you’ve chewed it well. Equipped with a new frame and a more compact size than the previous Mandello customs, the 940 Bellagio in turn recovers the latest generation C.A.RC cardan swingarm as well as the digital screen of the most recent Guzzi. On the 940, it is coupled with simplified instrumentation giving pride of place to a subtly retro speedometer. Since 2012, the Bellagio has lost 50 mm of seat height.
