Honda CT 125 Hunter Cub
Terrain Super Cub for Europe too
Honda presented the CT 125 Hunter Cub on March 27, 2020. The model is based on the Honda Super Cub and makes one on Scrambler. The CT 125 also seems to be coming to Europe.
S.Instead of premiering at the Osaka Motorcycle Show in Japan as planned, the Honda CT 125 Hunter Cub was on a "virtual motorcycle fair" present. Immediately afterwards, the new model will also be available at dealers in Japan. What was presented as a concept bike at the Tokyo Motorshow already looked very ready for series production back then. The technical basis for the CT 125 is provided by the legendary 125 Super Cub.
More travel, coarse tires
The CT 125 has a lot in common with the Super Cub C125, but uses a chassis that has been modified for better off-road use. The Hunter Cub’s front fork offers 109 millimeters of travel in contrast to the 89 millimeters of travel on the Super Cub. Coarse tires were mounted on the wire spoke rims. The exhaust with perforated heat shielding plate runs up on the right side just below the single seat. Behind this, a large, robust rack awaits luggage – or a mountable passenger seat, because the Honda CT 125 Hunter Cub is equipped (at least in the Japanese version) with passenger footrests.
Engine protection bars frame the 125 four-stroke single with its also raised intake tract. We know the automatic centrifugal clutch and the semi-automatic four-speed transmission from the Super Cub. The Hunter Cub, however, rolls up with a differently designed air inlet, which is placed higher to the left and breathes in under the luggage rack. This is supposed to reduce the performance compared to the Super Cub, but allow a higher torque at low speeds. 8.7 HP power at 7,000 rpm and 11 Nm maximum torque at 4,500 rpm are Honda.
Honda CT 125 with a larger tank
Furthermore, in contrast to the Super Cub C125, the Honda CT 125 is not only equipped with an electric starter but also with a kick starter and a larger fuel tank (5.3 liters compared to the 3.8 liters of the Super Cub). In addition, the rear fender of the Super Cub was evaporated and the chain case removed. Honda cites an empty weight of 120 kilograms for the off-road version, which would make it almost ten kilograms heavier than the Super Cub. The off-road version also dispenses with the keyless smartkey system of the Super Cub; the CT125 uses a classic ignition key. It also unlocks the folding seat under which the fuel filler cap is located.
The complete fairing of the Honda Super Cub has disappeared. The telescopic fork carries classic bellows and a small front fender as well as a round headlight framed in matt black. Honda specifies a ground clearance of 165 millimeters for the off-road Cub. The pilot directs the Honda CT 125 via a cranked tubular handlebar with a central strut. And while the Super Cub decelerates at the rear with a drum brake, a disc brake is used on the rear wheel of the Hunter Cub. The ABS is part of the standard equipment of the CT 125, but, as with the Super Cub, only applies to the front wheel.
Honda has given the price – including Japanese taxes – the sum of 440,000 yen (around 3,650 euros), which is around 40,000 yen (around 330 euros) more than is charged for the Super Cub C125. Two color variants will be available with red and brown. Like the Super Cub C125, the CT 125 is built in Thailand at the Thai Honda plant in Lat Krabang near Bangkok.
Honda CT 125 Hunter Cub for Europe
Honda
Design drawings of the CT 125 appeared at the European Patent Office, suggesting that Honda would like to introduce them to Europe as well.
Honda has not yet officially announced whether the Honda CT 125 Hunter Cub will also be offered outside of Japan. But design drawings have already appeared at the European Patent Office, which suggests that Honda is planning to offer the CT 125 in Europe as well. This would give the Honda Super Cub C 125 an off-road sister. The price of the CT is likely to be a few hundred euros higher than the Japanese pricing – around 3,900 euros. In 2020 the CT125 will not find its way to Europe, as a Honda spokesman confirmed on request.
Another Super Cub variant
The one announced in advance of the virtual presentation "Fun"-During the video presentation, the model also turned out to be a CT 125 – this logo was shown on the little Kraxler’s virtual booth. However, the Japanese showed a different conclusion
Honda had Trial Cub models in its range as early as the 1960s. In Australia, the similarly designed CT 110 has long been used as a Postie bike – that is, as a company vehicle for the post office. Even in Japan, the country of origin, the Cross Cub 110 is an off-road derivative in the regular tidy. With the CT125, a model for the international market could now be offered again.
