The first MotoGP race in Buriram, Thailand, turned into a heated battle and demanded everything from the driver with temperatures of 33 degrees and more than 50 percent humidity.
Pole setter Marc Marquez got off to a good start and led the field into the first corner, but the best start was made by Cal Crutchlow, who briefly made it to third position. Andrea Dovizioso found her way past Crutchlow before the end of the first lap and by the beginning of the second lap the lead had sorted itself behind Marquez.
After Marc Marquez briefly set the pace at the top, Andrea Dovizioso and Valentino Rossi slowly increased the pressure and on lap five only Andrea Dovizioso and shortly afterwards Valentino Rossi passed the Spaniard. In the following lap Rossi even managed to overtake Dovizioso and take the lead.
At the same time, Dani Pedrosa was working his way through the front midfield. The Spaniard, who had dropped to eleventh place in the early stages of the race, was already fighting for seventh place with Alex Rins and Jack Miller on lap eight. The latter then had to admit defeat to his two opponents on lap ten.

Valentino Rossi even leads the field at times, but it wasn’t enough for a podium.
A little later, Valentino Rossi also dropped to third behind his direct rivals Andrea Dovizioso and Marc Marquez. The speed at the front was slow at this point, so that the chasing group with Cal Crutchlow, Maverick Vinales, Johan Zarco, Alex Rins and Dani Pedrosa were able to catch up with the leading trio again. After a mistake, Rossi fell back to third position and was no longer able to intervene in the battle for victory.
Shortly before the end of the second third of the race, Dovizioso increased the speed of the race and pulled the lead apart again with Marquez and Rossi in tow. Cal Crutchlow, who had been in place for a long time, could no longer keep pace from lap 19 and had to first let Vinales and then Pedrosa and Rins pass. Pedrosa could not be happy about the won position for long and fell over the front wheel shortly afterwards.
Maverick Vinales is completely different. Shortly before the end, the Spaniard really got going and grabbed his team-mate Valentino Rossi, who was in third place.
But Marc Marquez was also able to top it off again. After the Spaniard had increased the pressure on the leader Andrea Dovizioso, the Spaniard slowed past the Ducati driver for the first time three laps before the end, thus opening the battle for victory. This was followed by a fierce but fair exchange of blows between Dovizioso and Marquez, which enabled Vinales and Rossi to catch up again.
Decision in the last corner

Maverick Vinales really got going at the end of the race and was rewarded with a podium finish.
The decision was made in the last corner. After Marquez had taken the lead at the beginning of the last lap, Dovizioso made one last attempt at the start / finish and braked past Marc Marquez. When accelerating out, the Ducati rider had the worse line and Marquez won the sprint to the finish line. Valentino Rossi also tries to pass Maverick Vinales before the last corner, but in the end it was only enough for fourth place behind his team-mate.
Johan Zarco, who struggled with problems in the middle of the race, finished the race in fifth ahead of Alex Rins and Cal Crutchlow. Another strong Alvaro Bautista (Angel Nieto Ducati) and the two Pramac Ducati drivers Danilo Petrucci and Jack Miller complete the top ten.

Qualifying
The first MotoGP training sessions on the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand, brought some surprises for drivers and teams. While the Yamahas were able to set top times again after poor performance at the Aragon Grand Prix in Buriram, the Thailand Grand Prix for Jorge Lorenzo already ended on Friday. The Mallorcan fell violently in the second free practice session due to a high side, suffered a fracture in his left arm and started his journey home on Saturday.
Marc Marquez also crashed in the third free practice and consequently had to prove himself in the first qualifying for the second time this year. As expected, Marquez made it into qualifying two with a 1: 30.031 minutes. A few seconds before the end of Q1, Alex Rins also made it into Q2 with a 1: 30.921 minutes.
Maverick Vinales then opened the final qualifying with the first fastest lap, but again it was Marc Marquez who set the first run ahead of Ducati drivers Andrea Dovizioso and Jack Miller (Pramac) with a 1: 30.356 minutes with the provisional Finished best time.
Rossi and Yamaha regained strength
2snap
Valentino Rossi showed himself to be strong in qualifying and will start the race from second on Sunday.
The drivers took a long time to make the second attempt and in the last three minutes they sometimes hindered each other on the track. With Valentino Rossi it was again a Yamaha rider who started the first attack and briefly moved to the top of the tableau. Marc Marquez’s counterattack followed with a 1: 30.088 minutes, but on the heels. If in the last few seconds it looked as if Andrea Dovizisio could step up again and displace the Spaniard from pole, it was only enough for third place on the grid with a 1: 30.227 minutes ahead of Maverick Vinales. Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) and Andrea Iannone complete the second row.
Pramac driver Jack Miller is likely to be disappointed. The likeable Australian had shown himself to be very strong with top times in the third free practice session, but in the end it was only enough for starting position ten.
