News Buell, Harley-Davidson and Triumph
New muscle toys
Harley doesn’t flex its muscles when it comes to the novelties for 2009, but presents an excitingly styled toy with the V-Rod Muscle. Buell brings another model with the powerful 1125 engine, and Triumph also relies on strength.
The new V-Rod Muscle has been given a frame specially designed for it, is powered by the 1250 Revolution engine with 123 hp and presents the sharpest styling of all previous V-Rods. With angular suction openings at the front, a long rear wheel fender and the twin pipe exhaust, it looks as greedy for acceleration as a dragster at the pre-start.
It is a very safety-conscious motorcycle, has, like the other two VRSC models V-Rod and Night-Rod, an ABS as standard and uses an otherwise more common in racing, slipper clutch to prevent the To prevent rear wheel. In Germany it costs from 18,445 euros. The LTRSE CVO Road Glide is a motorcycle of no less impressive shape, a tourer built by the in-house tuning company Custom Vehicle Operations. Like the whole "normal" Tourer range also received a completely new chassis, which is not only intended to promote maneuverability, but also enables a more elastic engine suspension that allows less vibrations to penetrate the crew. This is why engines without a balancer shaft are used in both the CVO tourer and the standard models.
Harley-davidson
The 2009 Heritage Softail Classic is characterized by gleaming white whitewall tires.
The heart of the tuning bike is a 1800 cm³ ?? 110 cubic inches ?? enlarged screaming eagle engine, for which Harley unfortunately does not yet provide any power and torque values. Like the three other CVO models Fat Bob, Electra Glide and Softail Springer, the very special Road King is adorned with a multitude of decorative chrome parts, most of them with special emblems. The taillights and indicators have been redesigned, as has the cladding, which now has a low black wind deflector instead of a high pane. The rear wheel suspension is air-assisted to adapt to different loads.
Buell debut
Buell
With the 1125 CR, Buell presents a model with a slim silhouette and a powerful engine.
Whitewall tires, of course. They immediately catch the eye on the redesigned Heritage Softail Classic. But the retro look is carefully maintained with many other details. This includes new fittings on the seat and saddlebags or raised glass decorations, and the designers have not even forgotten a speedometer dial with an intentionally old-fashioned look. An enlarged passenger bench with a removable backrest and a higher handlebar for the driver serve less aesthetic than profane ergonomic needs.
The common feature of the Softail series, which in addition to the Heritage includes motorcycles as diverse as the Cross Bones and the purist Rocker, are the Twin Cam 96 B engines with balancer shafts. Thanks to their smoother run, they can be screwed in rigidly and provide greater frame rigidity. It is noticeable that Harley-Davidson only gives the displacement in cubic inches for those engines that were entirely developed in their native Milwaukee. The revolution engines of the V-Rods, which were made ready for series production with a powerful dash of Porsche engineering, are just as little mentioned as the water-cooled V2 from Buell, which was developed in cooperation with Rotax and is also produced there . Here, the cubic capacity specification in cubic centimeters even serves as the model name for the motorcycle: 1125. The R model, which debuted last spring, was joined in 2009 by the 1125 CR. CR as an abbreviation for Cafe Racer and homage to historical models.
Cafe Racer may sound a little too harmless, because from a technical point of view, the CR is an R with a small headlight fairing and aluminum tube handlebars. A real weapon, the full 147 hp of the 1125 engine are retained, the tractive force that the maximum 111 Nm develop on the rear wheel is even increased by a shorter gear ratio than with the R model. This puts the CR in a row with calibers like the BMW K 1200 R or even the Suzuki B-King. Although it lacks an ABS, it is available for a much cheaper price of 11599 euros.
British style confidence at Triumph
triumph
New in 2009: Triumph Street Triple R, a refined version of the famous all-rounder, as well as three other innovations from the island.
Probably the most important novelty from Triumph, the Daytona 675 couldn‘t stand out with too many changes. It is still extremely popular, so a spectacular exchange would be risky. AT fortnight ago, when MOTORRAD was already showing Erlkonig photos of the new Triumph models, the analysts had to look closely to see the retouching on the headlights and windshield. What is more important is what you cannot see. Three more horsepower are the result of larger valves and a modified combustion chamber; the increased speed limit to just under 14,000 rpm required a new timing chain tensioner. A lighter exhaust and a valve cover made of magnesium save a total of three kilograms, the first gear has been translated longer.

Triumph Thunderbird: This is how the 1600 cruiser with in-line twin cylinder also has a name. Market launch is only in 2010.
The Street Triple R stays with the engine of the standard model. As already predicted, it has four-piston fixed calipers and fully adjustable spring elements; The setting options for high and low-speed compression on the shock absorber have also been confirmed. The conical Magura aluminum handlebar and the slightly higher seat were not visible in the Erlkonig photos. The new Bonneville with the cast wheels in the style of the late 1970s will be available in two variants; the more sophisticated SE model has a rev counter, chrome-plated tank emblems and brushed engine covers. It is also available in a two-tone finish. Interested shares will probably have to wait until 2010 for the fourth Triumph novelty, the 1600 cruiser called Thunderbird, after all it became known that the huge two-cylinder, like the smaller ones, runs with a 270-degree crank offset, imitating a 90-degree V2.
