New 2006: Kawasaki ZZR 1300
New 2006: Kawasaki ZZR 1300
One instead of two, but the right one: Kawasaki is working on a new powerful motorcycle that will replace the ZX-12R and the ZZR 1200 at the same time. Rumors know of brute performance data, but also of a new ABS.
ZZR ?? at Kawasaki has been the code for full performance, wind slipperiness and high speed since 1991. For motorcycles that tear brutally when necessary, mostly
but pull their paths with sovereign gravity. Even when the ZX-12R cracked the 300 km / h limit with a lot more power, less weight and a monohull frame from the year 2000, the "ZZR" retained its in the ears of many fans
magical sound.
That is why Kawasaki introduced the ZZR 1200 in 2002 as the successor to the 93-series ZZR 1100 that had been built for many years,
which, however, had little success. Hardly any progress, but savings in many of the details that were still elaborately executed in the previous model? that didn’t go down well in times of recession. It is no wonder that the engineers from Takahashi, Japan, tried to develop the modernity of the ZX-12R with the nimbus of the ZZR-
To merge series in order to bundle the penetration power of the brand. The new will be presented at the Paris fair in September; to BMW with the
K 1200 S, the Greens would be the second manufacturer to set new trends in this long-neglected class.
There is still no confirmed information about the new one, but rumors report well over 190 hp from 1300 cm3 and a torque of almost 150 Nm. That begs the question of that
Drive on, because Kawasaki currently has at least two units in its range that ?? enlarged to 1300 cm3 ?? can easily meet the rumored specifications: the 1199 oven-cylinder of the ZX-12R and that of the super-sporty ZX-10R, which draws hardly less top performance from 998 cm3.
For an engine based on the newer ZX-10R four-cylinder it speaks for itself-
tere and more compact design ?? it weighs around 16 kilograms less and is six centimeters lower and ten narrower than the 12-series engine. The performance-determining parts of the super sports car, such as the cylinder head and pistons, are more in line with the latest findings than with the five-year-old big block. On the other hand, it offers a balance shaft which, placed in front of the crankshaft, dampens annoying vibrations. Comfort that a sports tourer must offer. It is quite possible that the new, large-volume four-cylinder will be a synthesis of both existing concepts with a focus on the 10-series unit.
In terms of chassis, the new large Kawa should build on the ZX-12R. Mainly because the monocoque, cast from light metal, offers a lot of freedom in designing the intake and cooling air ducts despite its compact dimensions? Even with the ZX-12R, the use of cavities as an airbox saved a lot of height. In view of this, does the name ZZR 1300 remain? ZZ-13R would actually symbolize the technological merging of the series even better.
No details are yet available about that
expected ABS known. Should Kawasaki remain loyal to the house supplier Tokico, it would be their first ABS.
Start help – KTM 950 Enduro
It’s nice when you can sell a new sports model to the public with a win.
This is exactly what KTM succeeded in doing with the 950 Enduro on the Erzberg in the two-cylinder class, albeit very narrowly.
When two people argue, the third is happy. In this case the audience, who at the Erzberg two-cylinder race (see page 6) saw a heated battle between the BMW and KTM works teams. The fact that BMW and KTM compete against each other in the dusty business is nothing new: for years the two manufacturers had argued for victories in desert rallies. Now an entertaining duel in the enduro area is developing.
KTM brought as an opponent for the Munch-
ner HP2 two prototypes of the new
950 Enduro at the start, the one at the beginning
in the coming season (for drawing see MOTORRAD 10/2005). The basis of the factory racer is the previous 950 Adventure, which was trimmed towards off-road athletes with a small tank and a tight lamp mask. The two-cylinder of the production version is to be taken over unchanged from the Adventure, so it will be with
950 cm3 and carburettors around 100 hp. BMW and KTM are also pretty close to each other when it comes to the other key data. AT weight of around 195 kilograms and suspension elements with a stroke of 265 millimeters ensure sporty off-road qualities. The tank and seat should be narrower on the Enduro than on the Adventure and Supermoto in order to improve freedom of movement in the terrain.
While the 950 Supermoto, which has just come onto the market, will remain unchanged in the coming model year
the 950 Adventure, which has been offered since 2003, has been thoroughly revised. Next to one
The travel enduro receives a design lifting
Injection of the Superduke and an increase in displacement to 990 cm3. The displacement bonus should benefit less power than torque. The most interesting feature is likely to be a Brembo anti-lock braking system.
The new competition models will be available in a few weeks.
This also includes the double-cam cross four-stroke SX 250 F, which is currently in the
World championship is running. An enduro variant was not on the agenda until 2007, when the 450cc dohc engine made its debut. Far away is the successor for that
LC4 series moved in, a lightweight 650 single-cylinder with injection and significantly increased performance.
