Le Mans, Sunday May 23 – 2:50 p.m. – Jorge Lorenzo has just won at Le Mans ahead of Valentino Rossi, Andrea Dovizioso, Nicky Hayden, Dani Pedrosa, Marco Melandri and Randy de Puniet 7th, victim of "some front tire problems". The Spaniard signs his second success in a row at Le Mans after Jerez and the 28th of his career, consolidating his position at the top of the championship with 9 points ahead of his illustrious teammate two weeks before the Italian Grand Prix…

Valentino Rossi, who had worked hard to take pole position, got off to an excellent start and led the race in the first lap ahead of Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa (Honda) and the two Ducati riders, Nicky Hayden and Casey Stoner. The latter, who had appeared at the top of the free practice timesheet on Saturday, then quickly got the better of his teammate. While making an effort to stay in contact with the leading trio, he fell in the 3rd lap.

In the 4th lap, Rossi leads with 164 thousandths ahead of Lorenzo and half a second over Pedrosa. Dovizioso, who managed to pass Hayden, was then fourth, just over a second behind the leader. Leading trio clinch peloton as Pedrosa breaks lap record.

Two minor crashes – those of Ben Spies (Yamaha) and Loris Capirossi (Suzuki) – then occur, leaving only 13 riders fighting on the track. With nearly 20 laps to go, Lorenzo, author of the fastest time, overtook his leader in the Dunlop curve. True to form, the Doctor hastens to take control at the next turn, but the alert has been hot !

Three laps later, the unmistakably faster Lorenzo passed Rossi again at roughly the same spot, and this time stayed ahead. From the middle of the race, he accentuates his lead over the reigning world champion while another battle looms for 3rd place between Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso. The two teammates of the official Honda team do not spare themselves and Pedrosa is the first to make the mistake, even leaving the field open to Nicky Hayden who remained in ambush !

Casey Stoner, who left the fault alone in the first laps, recorded his second crash in three races while Ben Spies, also left with the fault, recorded his second white result after his retirement at Jerez due to a tire problem…

Lorenzo also signs the third Spanish victory of the day after those of Toni Elias in Moto2 and Pol Espargaro in 125 (see below). See you tomorrow for the complete race analysis with explanations from the drivers: stay tuned !

Le Mans – Moto2: victory for Toni Elias (Moriwaki)

Le Mans, Sunday May 23 – 1:15 p.m. – The Spaniard Toni Elias (Moriwaki) has just won the Moto2 race of the French Grand Prix ahead of his compatriot Julian Simon (Suter) and the Italian Simone Corsi (Motobi), Sunday on the Bugatti circuit of Le Mans.

Jules Cluzel lost the lead on lap 6, when he had just taken first place following a superb comeback. No luck either for Herve Poncharal: his two riders also folded their Mistral 610 Tech3 motorcycle from the first laps…

Already winner in Jerez at the beginning of the month, Elias, a former MotoGP rider, took the lead of the world championship, succeeding the Japanese Shoya Tomizawa (Suter), victim of a fall like no less than a dozen of his competitors on Sunday.

Author of the best time, the American Kenny Noyce takes the lead from the first corner. In the second round, the Spaniard Alex Debon takes matters into his own hands ahead of Elias, Noyce, Fonsi Nieto and Jules Cluzel. The latter, in front of his audience, beats the lap record to come third. After seeing the slow motion of the start, the track marshals then estimated that Debon had anticipated the start and inflicted a passage in front of the pits at reduced speed (60 km / h).

This sanction, which he paid on the 3rd lap, put an end to the hopes of the Spaniard who finished the race in 16th position. On the other hand, it offers Elias the command of the race and Cluzel a provisional second place. The Frenchman decided to put pressure on Elias and passed him on lap 6 … before losing the lead a few minutes later in the fast Dunlop curve! Before him, the two drivers of the French team Tech 3, Yuki Takahashi and Raffaelle De Rosa, went to the mat as well as Noyce, De Angelis, Tomizawa, the main leaders of the category….

The fight is then limited to Elias and Julian Simon who decides just after halfway to secure his second place while at a distance, a fight between Italians for 3rd place gives victory to Simone Corsi over Andrea Iannone (Speed Up ). After the fall of Jules Cluzel, Mike Di Meglio (20th) and Valentin Debise (22nd) are only two French classified.

Le Mans – Grand Prix 125: Spanish quartet in the lead !

Le Mans, Sunday May 23 – 11:55 a.m. – The Spanish rider Pol Espargaro (Derbi, Tuenti Racing) has just won the Grand Prix 125 at Le Mans ahead of three compatriots: Nicolas Terol (Aprilia, Bancaja Aspar Team), Marc Marquez (Derbi, Red Bull Ajo Motorsport) and Efren Vasquez (Derbi, Tuenti Racing), after a superb fight in the very last minutes !

This is the third Spanish hat-trick on the podium in three races this year and the 13th consecutive victory for an Iberian driver in this displacement, the last one still using 2-stroke engines..

In pole position, Terol started like a cannonball with nearly a second ahead of his pursuers on the first lap. The most able to follow him is quickly Pol Espargaro, winner of the last Spanish Grand Prix, while Terol won the first race of the season in Qatar. The two drivers widen a significant gap on a group of five drivers led by the British Bradley Smith (Aprilia) who will manage to hold this role until a few seconds from the end…

Halfway through the 24 laps, Terol is in the lead followed at 157 millemes by Espargaro while Smith, more than 6 seconds behind, leads the chasing group formed by Efren Vasquez (Derbi), Esteve Rabat (Aprilia), Marc Marquez , Tomoyoshi Koyama (Aprilia) and Sandro Cortese (Derbi). The positions stabilized but eight laps from the end, Espargaro attacked and passed inside Terol … who came back and regained his strength under braking on the following lap !

One lap later, the two leading men began to overtake the first lagging behind and Esparagaro took the lead in the aspiration. With two laps to go, Terol went inside on the Dunlop curve, the fastest on the circuit. But after a piloting error, he was immediately caught by Espargaro who never let go. Bradley Smith is poorly rewarded for his efforts, since he loses two places in the last minutes … On the French side, the permanent staff Johann Zarco and Alexis Masbou, both on Aprilia, finish 11th and 16th respectively.

Le Mans – Qualifying practice: Rossi in pole position !

Le Mans, Saturday May 22 – 3:00 p.m. – Valentino Rossi will start from pole position (for the first time this season and the 59th time in his career) of the French Grand Prix tomorrow at Le Mans, after setting the best qualifying time this afternoon in front of his "teammate "Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa (Honda).

Like yesterday during the first free practice session (read below), the Doctor again made the powder speak in the very last minutes by signing a time of 1’33.408 which will allow him, for the first time season, to start from pole position tomorrow on the Bugatti circuit to try to win the 2010 French Grand Prix.

"This weather makes me really very happy because for once at Le Mans, we were able to enjoy all the sessions correctly and now we are on pole!", Rejoices Rossi who admits "always worried" for his shoulder: "honestly , after ten or fifteen laps today, I started to lose strength but I hope that the adrenaline will take over during the race and that I will be able to reach the end quickly! "

The battle for pole position mainly concerned Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa during the first ten minutes. At the halfway point, Lorenzo left Rossi and Stoner behind while Randy de Puniet occupied a good 4th place followed by Pedrosa and Edwards.

"I have not yet achieved a leading position this season but that’s not a big deal," officially relativizes Jorge Lorenzo, winner last year at Le Mans and who will start tomorrow in second position: "I feel sure the bike and the race is very long "… In reality, the extremely tense face of the fiery Spanish just after qualifying says a lot more about his disappointment at not being able to break pole … not to mention that of Pedrosa at a press conference !

The official HRC rider, who will complete the first row in third position, is delighted with his "good final lap which opens the first row for us: it is very important because times are very tight here. For the race, we will still have to find a few tenths per lap to be able to maintain a high pace. On this circuit you have to stay very focused because the race is long and it is essential to be constant and not to make mistakes. But hey, I think you is in a good position. From the first row, I hope to have a good start to give myself all the chances during the race! "

As for the American driver of the Tech3 team, he had even managed to seize the provisional pole 25 minutes from the end of the session, before the battle between Rossi, Stoner and Lorenzo resumed..

"I drive as fast as I can, but I could only finish in 8th position", regrets the Texan Tornado: "the guys in front knocked off last year’s pole by half a second and even though I find it hard to say, I have to admit that I couldn’t turn 33.5 "… Tomorrow, the key to the race will be to get into the rhythm very quickly. It’s going to be a long and difficult race but it’s an important event for Tech 3 and Monster, so as always I will do my best to get a good result ".

Casey Stoner will finally start from 4th place ahead of his teammate Nicky Hayden, while Randy de Puniet is ahead of the second official Honda rider, the Italian Andrea Dovizioso !

"Today’s result is obviously overwhelming, after the difficulties encountered yesterday during the first free session", explains Randy: "I then declared to be calm for Saturday but it was not really the case .. . I was rather frustrated not being able to ride as I can do with a bike that was showing particularly nervous. But the technical team again excelled in their work and from the first laps of the wheels this morning, confidence is came back instantly. It took us a step further for this afternoon to finally qualify again on the second row for the third time this year. It would not have been possible without the enormous debauchery of energy from the members. of the team that I would like to thank. This race is particularly close to my heart and nothing would please me more than to conclude it in the leading group, even if the start will prove to be crucial here at Le Mans where overtaking is relatively fa stidious "…

Le Mans – Second free practice: Stoner’s reply !

Le Mans, Saturday May 22 – 11:00 a.m. – Casey Stoner gave the reply to Valentino Rossi by setting this morning the best time of the second free practice session, marked by numerous falls in the first five minutes which lead to the package of Alvaro Bautista (see box below) . With a time of 1’34.209, the Australian beat the benchmark time set yesterday by the Doctor by almost two tenths (see below).

From the first five minutes of the session, Álvaro Bautista, Ben Spies and Mika Kallio fell without being able to start again … Already suffering from a broken collarbone (read), Bautista suffered a high-side low speed which could jeopardize his participation in the rest of the weekend … Spies suffered a similar fall a few moments later, on a track whose low temperature had already caused problems for the drivers in the 125 category.

Finally the American rookie of the Monster Yamaha Tech3 team was evacuated from the track and taken to the Clinica Mobile for an initial examination which revealed a contusion on his left foot, while Kallio suffers from a contusion on his left shoulder….

After those chaotic first minutes, Stoner climbed to the top of the timesheet with just 15 thousandths of a second advantage over Jorge Lorenzo, who posted the second fastest time of the two practice sessions. Rossi is third with a time of 1’34.451.

Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso complete the top five ahead of Aleix Espargaró who continues his good weekend with sixth fastest time while Nicky Hayden is seventh ahead of Randy de Puniet, the last driver below 1’35, who drops from fourteenth yesterday to the eighth today. The two veterans Colin Edwards and Loris Capirossi are also in the top 10 while Marco Simoncelli suffered a small fall without consequence at the end of the session and signs the twelfth time.

Bautista withdraws…

Already the victim of a broken collarbone following a fall in motocross training (read), Alvaro Bautista must forfeit after falling in the third round of the second free practice session…

The Rizla Suzuki team will therefore have to rely only on Loris Capirossi tomorrow for the race, while Bautista will return to Spain for treatment to be ready for Mugello in 15 days..

Le Mans – First free practice: fastest Rossi !

Le Mans, Friday May 21, 2010 – Valentino Rossi seems determined to take his revenge on the Le Mans circuit (read): the fastest driver of the first free practice session which took place this afternoon on the Bugatti, the Doctor slammed a time of 1’34.402 which places it 0.106 s in front of Casey Stoner’s Ducati !

Dominating as soon as he left the box, Rossi then had to cede the leadership to his teammate Jorge Lorenzo, currently first in the general classification, then to Stoner. Slightly hampered by his shoulder injury during the braking phases, the n ° 46 however quickly found the necessary speed to set the best time during his final loop. !

Under a radiant sun, with a temperature of 28 ° C and 44 ° C on the ground – conditions which should continue for the race on Sunday – Rossi thus confirms his claims for the third meeting of the season. He worked in particular on the rear suspension settings to obtain "more rigidity and stability: the bike is fast, we are following the Honda in the straights on this circuit".

"I am really very happy with these tests and particularly with my last lap, where I was very fast," said the nine-time world champion. "It’s nice to be so fast already, although I had some shoulder pain on the two or three big brakes on the circuit".

"It’s the most beautiful Mans I have ever seen and I like it a lot!", Continues Rossi: "it was 26 degrees today while the races are regularly disturbed by the rain. It changes everything. conditions this circuit is really fun. With this sun everything changes. Particularly compared to last year but also during all these last seasons when we knew the cold or the rain. In addition I noticed that I had many supporters around the track and I want to thank them for their presence ".

Behind the Doctor, Casey Stoner felt "much more comfortable than usual on this circuit. There is still a lot of work to be done, but we are on the right track", said the Ducati rider, author of the second time, an unusual place for the Italian machine on this circuit which does not value top speed but rather gives the advantage to machines that are manoeuvrable and stable under braking.

Third behind Casey Stoner and a big tenth behind his illustrious teammate, the Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo experienced small electronic problems on his Yamaha M1 at the start of the session, which did not prevent him from considering himself "very satisfied" with his first attempts.

Once again, Andrea Dovizioso signs the best performance of the Honda HRCs and sits between the n ° 99 and his teammate Dani Pedrosa. Uncomfortable on hard braking with an RCV212 which seems to lack stability seen from the edge of the track, Pedrosa is half a second behind Valentino Rossi.

Sixth, Colin Edwards precedes an American duo: Ducati rider Nicky Hayden and his Tech3 teammate Ben Spies. The American rookie, who is the last driver less than a second behind Rossi, has been quite comfortable on the demanding Le Mans track which he is seeing for the first time. !

At home and in front of fans already very numerous around the Sarthe circuit, Randy de Puniet unfortunately only signs the 14th fastest time, victim of a machine that he considers "nervous" and "aggressive".

"We did not really achieve the session we were hoping for, but the overall tuning of the bike remains the same as that used during the first two Grands Prix", observes Randy at the end of this first session: "we Little by little we are fine-tuning some details. We started this first hour of free practice with front and rear race envelopes that we kept until the end of the session. My feelings were really positive at the start although the bike showed some signs of aggressiveness. Some difficulties then appeared, and more particularly at the level of the chassis and the stability under braking. The machine was also relatively nervous during the changes of direction. We will analyze all this tonight to erase all these small faults and be calm before tomorrow’s qualifying session ".

Finally as expected (read), the recent fracture of Alvaro Bautista seriously compromised his first tests: the Suzuki pilot had to drive under infiltration and only completed 19 laps…
