Moto Morini Milano 2018

Naked bike in the driving report

Moto Morini will launch the new Milano in 2018. First as a limited special model, then as a series. We could already ride the naked bike.

Moto Morini Milano – the name of the model presented at EICMA 2017 is not quite happily chosen M.oto Morini from Bologna and not from Milan. But at least the Milano makes a strong visual reference to a real Bolognese plant of the house, namely the much-vaunted 3½ from the 1970s. Lines, shapes and colors are inspired by the ancestor, and it also remains with the two-cylinder, but with 1200 instead of the 350 cm³ at that time. Both engines come from the same developer, Franco Lambertini, and so the circle is complete. The Milano will have around 115 to 125 hp – the vote is not yet final – and will be launched on the market in a special series limited to 30 units in October 2018 at a price of 17,500 euros. The series model will follow in April 2019; the price should be around 15,000 euros.

Reduced power, changed chassis

Even before the market launch, MOTORRAD had the opportunity to drive the Moto Morini Milano as a pre-series version. Even in this “work in progress"-Status, the Milano 1200 looks elegant with its classic, simple lines and red and black paintwork.

At the Milano, the performance of the well-known 1200 V2 was cut a little, because it should appeal to a different, more relaxed audience than the fast-paced Corsaro. The Classic Bike will therefore fire around 115 to 125 hp, with a maximum torque of 100 to 110 Nm; the exact dates have not yet been determined. The new chassis geometry with a longer wheelbase and caster and a slightly steeper steering head angle are intended to promote stability and precision.

Milano without a lot of electronics

As a real classic bike, the Milano does not need a lot of electronics.

It feels good on the road. Unlike the Corsaro, the Milano doesn’t need to be on the spur all the time, it also likes a chilled-out mode. She remains spirited anyway, because the fiery punch of the V2 is always blazing in the background. The small 14 liter tank is narrow, so the seat height of 82 cm feels lower. The total weight of around 200 kg and the casual seating position make the motorcycle manageable, the curve swing in the hinterland of Milan is smooth and precise, especially since the upside-down fork with good feedback contributes to the driving pleasure. The fork is fully adjustable, as is the mono shock absorber; The Italian racing specialist Mupo produces both exclusively for Moto Morini. At 110 mm, the rear suspension travel turned out to be quite short, and potholes are sometimes uncomfortable.

The Brembo brake system familiar from the Corsaro engages powerfully, but not too harshly, and the Bosch ABS is pleasingly defensive. However, there is no more electronics.
