Morini X-Cape Motorcycle

New mid-range adventure bike

EICMA 2019

The Italian manufacturer Moto Morini presents a new mid-range adventure bike at EICMA 2019. A study will be presented, a market launch for 2020 is rather unlikely.

It wants to be among its new Chinese owners (Zhongneng Vehicle Group) M.Position oto Morini more broadly and aim for the middle class. Two studies revolving around a 650 twin-cylinder at the EICMA in Milan give an outlook on possible upcoming models.

The Moto Morini X-Cape presented at EICMA follows the current trend towards crossover adventure bikes – a touch of enduro, but not really off-road. The technical basis is shared by the X-Cape with the 6 1/2, a scrambler that will also be shown as a study at EICMA. The 650 cm³ large series twin comes from Chinese production. The Italians do not state a top performance, but a 48-hp version should be possible.

Morini Motorcycle

Only ABS on board

A steel bridge frame stretches around the twin with six-speed gearbox, which clamps a fully adjustable USD 50 fork with 160 mm of travel at the front. The rear central spring strut has a travel of 135 mm. On the 19 and 17 inch wire-spoke wheels, Morini clamps a 110/80 tire at the front and a 150/70 tire with a gentle lug profile at the rear. Braking power is provided by a 300 double disc at the front and a 255 disc at the rear. In terms of the control systems, the X-Cape is limited to ABS. The cockpit has a seven-inch TFT display and a Bluetooth interface.

Visually, the Moto Morini X-Cape follows the lines of the competition. The frame-fixed front cladding carries a steep, high pane. The side panel extends down over the radiator flanks, at the rear it tapers seamlessly into the tank seat bench line. The pilot sits on a two-part, stepped bench at a height of 830 mm (an 845 bench is optionally provided) behind a bulging tank and a cranked handlebar. The passenger is enthroned one floor higher on a slim, tapering rear.

Conclusion

Yes, in the German motorcycle registration statistics, the large GS is ranked 1 with a 1200, but behind it there are thousands of bikes with significantly smaller cubic capacities between 400 and 900 cubic meters. It is absolutely understandable that Moto Morini would like to expand its range of four models with the large 1200-V2 towards the middle class.
