Suzuki V-Strom 250 in the driving report

First ride with the small travel enduro

The Suzuki V-Strom 250 was not supposed to come to Germany at all, but persistent customer interest ensured that the little Stromer will be available from autumn onwards.

The displacement segment clearly this side of the half liter, long believed dead, is currently experiencing a renaissance in Europe. Two-wheelers with displacements around 300 cc are mainly sold in the Asian and South American markets, where they enjoy the status of a big bike and the corresponding image. But also in Europe a growing number of customers are obviously tired of the eternal faster, higher, further, which can always be supplemented by a heavier and more expensive one. At least the 390 KTMs sell as well as the 300 from Kawasaki. BMW is also currently expanding the G 310 series. Seen in this way, the risk for Suzuki, the small Suzuki made in China V-Keep electricity 250 to Europe within limits.

V-Strom? Actually more of an R-stream

Actually, the Suzuki V-Strom 250 should, as colleague Schneider aptly remarked, be called R-Strom, because, unlike its two big sisters, it is powered by a counter-rotating in-line twin. This basically comes from the Inazuma, but has been heavily revised for better economy. Suzuki states a consumption of less than 3.5 liters. If this can be maintained in practice, it would be a real surprise, because at least out of town you are mostly on the road with fully open throttle valves and five-digit speeds.

Available from autumn 2017

25 HP and 23 Nm are just not the world. The engine turns willingly, and the six gears slip into position like nothing, only the fine but omnipresent vibrations, which are reminiscent of dental equipment in the upper speed quarter, cloud the joy a little. The comfortable, but not wobbly chassis, as well as the pleasant accommodation of the pilot are on the plus side of the Suzuki V-Strom 250, which will also be available in red and black from autumn for 5,490 euros.
