First comparison of the naked

The starting price of the Indian FTR 1200 is 14,690 euros and comes in black with standard ABS and cruise control. Drivers of the S version, which costs from 15,990 euros, can enjoy cornering ABS, traction and wheelie control as well as three driving modes (Sport, Standard and Rain). Then you can also choose from three variants of two-tone paintwork: the red-black Race Replica paint, black-gray or gray-red.
Both are powered by a liquid-cooled V2 – with the Ducati, however, the twin makes 147 hp and provides 126 Nm maximum torque at 7,750 rpm, while the Indian has 120 hp and 115 Nm at 6,000 rpm. MOTORRAD editor-in-chief Michael Pfeiffer describes in his driving report of the pre-series FTR: “Maybe a Ducati works better, but the American runs more smoothly.
17 vs. 18 and 19 inch wheels
There are also differences in the gear train: the FTR 1200, deviating from the class standard, rolls to 19 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear, which is based on the original Indian Flat Tracker and greatly restricts the tire selection. The Ducati Monster 1200 traditionally relies on the common 17-inch format – front and rear, which gives it wide access to the latest sports tire profiles. Together with the 87 mm long caster, the Monster should be sportier and more agile, while the FTR with its wheel sizes and a 130 mm long caster “circles around fast, long curves like on rails. To do this, however, it has to be packed neatly by the collar ”, as Michael Pfeiffer writes in the driving report. In addition, the Indian is 13 centimeters longer than the Ducati, which could also suggest that it is more geared towards previously sporty Harley riders than sporty naked bike pilots.
The FTR 1200 is definitely comfortable, as the first driving report shows: “Everything feels very light and flaky because you sit so relaxed. In addition, the spring elements swallow a lot due to the long spring travel and a successful basic set-up. "
The Monster takes a different approach, as his colleague Thomas Schmieder confirms with his descriptions of the driving report of the renovated 2017 model: “Supereasy folds down the Ducati Monster 1200, which weighs around 219 kilograms, and falls more easily on an incline than an autumn leaf from a tree. Course corrections in curves? No problem."
