Presentation of the Yamaha MT-125
Number 5 is alive
Zero-one, zero-three, zero-nine, zero-seven. This is the order of the MT series, of which the last two models are a resounding success for Yamaha. With the MT-125, the group presents the fifth in the league for the 2014 model year.
Oh look, it works! Given the success of MT-09 and M.T-07 is now also followed by Yamaha in the 125cc series. After all, the two larger torque miracles (MT stands for “Master of Torque”) not only achieved top placements in MOTORRAD comparison tests, but also sell like sliced bread, given the extremely low entry prices.

Number 5 is alive
Yamaha build on the successes of its two big sisters and present with the MT-125 an eight-liter naked bike with Streetfighter elements, which is intended to appeal especially to young riders.
Orientation towards the larger displacement models
With the YZF-R 125, the developers at Yamaha have already proven that they know how to design a sharp 125cc and thus get the youngsters excited about motorcycling. Since its appearance in 2008, it has mostly been number one in the registration statistics in the light motorcycles sector, which is still booming. At first glance, the design of the MT-125 is based on the larger-displacement models. The low-lying, distinctive front headlights (with LED daytime running lights) take up their lines as well as the short, steeply rising rear.
Technically, the MT-125 is largely based on the platform of the current YZF-R 125 from 2014, sharing the frame, chassis and engine with its successful sister. In other words, the Baby MT also features a 41-millimeter upside-down fork and radially screwed brake calliper along with a 292-millimeter floating disc. As with the sporty sister, however, ABS is not available. The water-cooled four-valve drive of the YZF-R 125 has a full 15 hp. Its long-stroke design already helps the YZF-R 125 to achieve comparatively good pulling power and, in conjunction with the 138 kilograms (ready to drive, Yamaha factory specification), should also enable the MT-125 to perform well.
"An upright, moderately sporty sitting position"
In terms of chassis, the developers made the biggest technical change to the steering head angle, which at 33.5 degrees is even steeper than on the YZF-R 125. This measure is intended in conjunction with the offset seat, the shorter tank and the wide, higher handlebar enable noticeably better agility . Yamaha speaks of "an upright, moderately sporty seating position" and thus more seating comfort in the city and on country roads.
From August 2014 the MT-125 will be available from dealers for 4095 euros plus additional costs in the colors red, blue and gray. In terms of price, it is a good 250 euros below the YZF-R 125 and 150 euros below its direct competitor, the KTM Duke 125. But it has ABS as standard.
