The battle for the Pacific is approaching … 2007 too !
As soon as they got off their bikes on Sunday, the MotoGP riders returned to the Brno track on Monday and Tuesday to prepare for a formidable battle in the Pacific. The occasion also for some to make their very first laps on the 800 cc ! Balance sheet.
Just enough time to recover from a crash-free weekend – a MotoGP first! -, that the Intercontinental Circus pilots have already left !
Monday and Tuesday, the main teams played the Czech extra time to prepare for their next campaign in the Pacific which promises to be very hotly contested….
Honor to the winner of the Czech Republic GP (read), Loris Capirossi, who was rewarded for his superb performance by 28 laps of Ducati GP7, the next Italian Diva…
2007 target ?
"The handling of the bike is greatly improved and this is important", testifies the Italian, adding that"this bike must be ridden differently from the GP6. It is also very pleasant, a bit like a 250 !"
Capirex also notes that "the motor is different, obviously less powerful, but it makes a superb noise". Phew, the honor of the dynasty is already safe! Alongside the red imp, Sete Gibernau also made the trip to see the GP7…
"Yesterday I was in heaven when Loris won! I feel like part of the family and am always happy when the guys are doing well", explains the Catalan pilot who should make his return to Sepang on September 10.
"Mentally I am 100% and I hope that the exams I am going to take next week will confirm that I am also doing well physically. ", pawing impatiently Sete, 14th in the provisional classification.
But Ducati was not the only one to "baptize" its future mount. At Yamaha, Valentino Rossi was able to test the 800 cc prototype, but on only four laps. Suddenly, his comments are less copious: the war of nerves is on !
Thus, Vale modestly confides that his "first impression is pretty good". He would also have confirmed the similarity of driving between the 800 4-stroke and a 250 2-stroke. Enough to give a smile to Pedrosa, even Biaggi, about whom we hear about Ducati d’Antin….
2006 target !
But Rossi mainly worked on his M1: best time at the end of the two days, the Doctor seems to have found an interesting remedy for his lack of motor skills: "I definitely feel that the bike turns better when the throttle is open", welcomes the reigning world champion, for the moment 3rd in the 2006 ranking.
Still leading the championship, Nicky Hayden has not been idle by completing once again more laps than anyone: the Kentucky Kid, who finished only 9th in the last race (read), knows full well that "for the next five races we will have to be ready"…
Author of an encouraging race simulation, the American will indeed have to deliver an end to the season as beautiful as that of 2005 if he wants to stay ahead of Rossi and Capirossi, but also to be safe from his colleagues at Honda: Pedrosa and Melandri !
His little teammate Dani "Asimo" Pedrosa was not present but the RCV still had good times on Monday, Tuesday being marred by a wet end of the day. Thus Melandri and Stoner respectively signed the 3rd and 4th best times of the tests.
On the Suzuki side, these tests were an opportunity for Vermeulen to test a new chassis, in addition to the new oscillating arms and front forks also released by the Anglo-American Hopkins.
"The pilots did a good job and provided very rich comments. We can consider that they have given Suzuki the right course to follow", rejoices their team manager Paul Denning. As for the Kawasaki, they are not left with the 5th and 6th places of Nakano and De Puniet..
Finally, we note the great performance of Sylvain Guintoli who managed to beat his "teammate" Carlos Checa and is less than three seconds behind the Doctor. !
