Italian GP: Marquez hopes to take advantage of new front tire
Marc Marquez will have to redeem himself at Mugello after having made a mistake for the second time this season during the French GP. The MotoGP titleholder, 4th in the provisional 27 points behind leader Viñales, believes the new stiffer-ply tire introduced by Michelin this weekend at the Italian GP should help him better control his Honda.
Fallen in then in, Marc Marquez has already used more "jokers" than last season when he had topped his third MotoGP title (only one). The Honda official must fix things this weekend at the circuit on which he had signed his very first Grand Prix victory in 2010 (in GP 125).
To help him, the HRC had organized a day of private testing on Wednesday during which he and Dani Pedrosa were able to test the Michelin front tire with a stiffer carcass again. Testing unfortunately mourned by the disappearance of Nicky Hayden, 2006 MotoGP world champion in the same team as Marquez…

"We were preparing for test day at Montmelo last week when we learned of the terrible news about Nicky’s passing," said Marc Marquez. "He was a great driver and an amazing person. I remember when I was 15 at the start of my World Championship career and my English was very poor, he was trying to speak Spanish.".
“He was fun, laid back and saw me as his little brother. We then shared the same box last year in Australia and had a great post-race party. Like his family, he was passionate about motorcycling and he will always be in our hearts ", assures the n ° 93, who spent his day in Barcelona fine-tuning his RCV settings and testing the Michelin front tire.
Remember that last year in Valencia, but that most of the pilots were opposed to its use. The general opinion changed at Le Mans, where it was decided to introduce it into the allocation from the Italian GP.
"I feel better with this tire"
Marc Marquez hopes to take advantage of this additional carcass rigidity, he whose driving places enormous demands on the front axle of his RC213V. Not sure that his teammate Dani Pedrosa, suddenly moved up to second place in the provisional, finds so many advantages because of his small size and his sunk steering … Note also that Pedrosa had no longer dominated Marquez in the championship since the first MotoGP season of n ° 93, in !
"Regarding testing, we have worked on the set-up of the machine and we have focused more particularly on the Michelin front tire that we will start using at Mugello", reports the Spaniard. “With this tire, I felt less movement in the front and the feeling was more consistent throughout a lap. It remains to be seen how it will behave over the duration of a race. it with my riding style, I feel better with it. I’m convinced that in Mugello, this one will help us a little more ".
A test day in Montmeló!
