Statements by World Supersport drivers in Portimao
The ninth round of the 2017 World SSP took place this weekend in Portimao, Portugal. To complete our almost live report, here are the statements of the Supersport drivers at the end of the Portuguese race !
Site readers – who, as everyone knows, are a little more fortunate than others – have already been able to follow Saturday and Sunday, almost live, the progress of the Mondial Superbike and Supersport races on the Portimao circuit (for latecomers, read, then).
Find below the statements of the drivers who distinguished themselves on Sunday during the Supersport race. Honor to the winner !
Kenan Sofuoglu (Kawasaki n ° 1), 1st:
"We always appreciate more a victory after a very good fight. It was a very good race for everyone because Lucas Mahias and I who are fighting for the championship, we are beaten today in Portimao. This race was therefore very special. I think it’s a very good end to the season. I have to thank my team because we fell yesterday, but we were back to win. Being unable to score points in the first three races made me hungry, but it also relaxed me and allowed me to race on the bike, quite simply, trying to win races. I’m just making myself happy now, and today I rode the motorbike to win the race, not the championship. I want to continue this way and I hope it goes well, that we will be able to win the championship when we get to Qatar for the final round. ".
Lucas Mahias (Yamaha n ° 144), 2nd:
"The race was very good, I am very happy! I felt very strong and I attacked a lot to follow Kenan and I was hoping to pass him in the last corner. But I made a mistake on the last lap and that made it harder for me. In the championship, that doesn’t change much, he only has a four-point lead and Portimao is the last track on the calendar on which I don’t have a great feeling. Now, I really like the tracks on which the next three races will take place, and I have good memories on them, so the championship is not over yet! It’s my home race at Magny-Cours, I will be doing some my best to win! "
Jules Cluzel (Honda n ° 16), 3rd:
"I’m happy with this podium, but you could also say disappointed because I was looking for a win. We worked hard for that. We tried to prepare as well as possible before the race and I think we succeeded, but the warm -up from this morning sent us a warning. In the cooler conditions we were quite far from Kenan and we were destroying the tire. The bike is a good bike, it is stable and throughout the season it is certain that we were among the strongest. But we have to move forward, the target remains the victory. We are close but not enough to be able to pass on the last lap. I am looking forward to Magny-Cours, I have have won three times, in the wet as in the dry. We will try to improve the initial grip, this is the only point where we waste time "
Vesa Kallio, Yamaha team manager n ° 31 and n ° 66:
"The start of our two guys (Morais and Tuuli, Editor’s note) should have been better for both guys, which made us lose a few places. Sheridan struggled to get back on the leading group, but failed to catch up with the top three. Race winner Sofuoglu and runner-up Mahias were ahead of Sheridan in the world championship standings and the third today, Cluzel, is hiding behind him in fourth. The rest are expected to be races is very tight and exciting. Sheridan’s pace was very fast throughout the weekend and he was unlucky with the lack of rear grip, his laps in the race were slower. Niki a Rode well this weekend but an uneven track, a close fight with an opponent and a small error in the 8th corner led him to crash late in the race. There are still three races to go this season, we will be racing after the 25 points in each of them. Our two pilots have this it takes to be on the podium, there is no doubt ".
Patrick Jacobsen (MV Agusta n ° 99), 5th:
“It wasn’t a great day for me, I come away with fifth place as I thought we would fight for the win. I really took a slap for it. I did my best with it. that we have, I rode to the best of my ability. I hate apologies, but we just couldn’t win today. ".
