Honda MSX 125 test: taking over from the Dax
The Parisians crossed during this test still cannot believe it: the Dax is resuscitated! Like the Mini, Beetle, 500 or DS, the small Honda motorcycle is back in the guise of an attractive MSX125 which is easy, fun and practical.. Test.
The succession of Dax is assured
Despite its pocket size, this new little Honda MSX 125 is extremely well thought out for the city: fun, efficient, attractive and well designed. Urban test of the most fun two-wheeler in Paris? In the saddle !

You have to go back to 1963 to discover the origins of the MSX 125 … At the time, the small two-wheeler called Monkey CZ100 was marketed with a 50 cc engine. It was designed to facilitate movement within the amusement park built at the same time, next to the Suzuka circuit, in Japan..
Accessible to children as well as adults, the Monkey was then imported into Europe, then declined in several displacements and models of which the best known are the Dax ST50 and ST70: between 1969 and 2006, this series will sell more than 37,000 units in France !
In 2013, Honda launched a new dynasty with a whole new name … but the concept remains unchanged.
"Easy, fun and practical, the MSX125 for "Mini Street X-treme 125" is remarkably compact to be accessible to the greatest number of people", announces the world number one:"the MSX125 is halfway between a mini-bike for size and a classic bike for performance and dynamic handling. All with an urban and funny style !"
Made in Thailand like many Honda scooters and motorcycles, the MSX 125 already has its followers there, especially among the youngsters. As in France 20 years ago, they invest the wasteland and indulge in a few pirouettes…
So let’s hope, for Honda as for all manufacturers of motorized two-wheelers, that this novelty will appeal to a young European audience who has recently turned away from the world of mobs and motorcycles..
To do this, the mini bike has an interesting quality / price ratio for a 125: 3,040 euros turnkey. Honda could even have saved some money by replacing for example the cute but a little more expensive golden inverted fork with a traditional element.
We would also have thought that the damping of the engine, which is none other than the 125 cc mounted on the Innova scooter – 4-stroke single cylinder produced more than 930,000 copies worldwide since 2003! – could have lightened the note.
But anyway, the customer consoles himself by appreciating the quality of manufacture, better than on certain Japanese motorcycles of large displacement. !
The design is particularly successful, the plastics and their punchy colors are very flattering (oddly, black is not imported while it is popular in France) and the lights at the front and rear are resolutely modern..
Even the digital instrumentation has been stolen from the biggest models in the range (and). The counter is readable and displays two daily trips, a fuel gauge, the clock and even a tachometer !
